The legless ones...
While the large snakes have been hibernating in the basement for a week, the bull snakes and house snakes remain in the living room. Both Pituophis are from this year, they won't be allowed into the cellar until next winter.
Pituophis catenifer sayi snow female / the only Hognose offspring I kept this year; it is a normal het lavender

The only two african house snake species I keep:
Lamprophis aurora, youngster from 2022 (they grow really slow...) / Boaedon fuliginosus black from Togo - also offspring 2022

Love aurora's! Would love to keep them again.

Well, all fed well....apart from my usually murderous Harpactira pulchripes who was no where to be seen. Didn't even attempt to murder the water as it refilled the dish...suspicious.

Omothymus schioedtei finally pushed its molt out . I fed her I'm hoping a her .a nice size roach. It was out and ready to eat.
I've also got to admit. My inexperience with the genius has been felt. No real issues, but more thought into things with these.

Fast growing and more legs than you can imagine starting out with them is crazy.

Rehoused 5 more today...

0.0.1 Harpactira cafreriana
PB120012.JPG
PB120005.JPG

0.0.1 Guyruita cerrado
PB120019.JPG

0.1 Sahydroaraneus raja
PB120054.JPG
PB120058.JPG

0.0.2 Ornithoctoninae sp. Ho Chi Minh (spicy little duo)
PB120038.JPG

This one was a little easier to transfer into the new enclosure - I just waited until it was chewing on the handle of my paintbrush, then I picked it up and moved it over, lol. Grumpy gus! It's still in shock in this pic, and you can see some of the dirt between it's chelicerae from when it was biting everything in sight...

Tried to distract myself from the budding cluster headache by feeding some tarantulas. Nice and calming, I thought. Nuh-uh said Silvia, my O. sp. Vietnam Silver juvenile. Long story short this little poopy bolted on me not once but twice and once I finally caught her she refused to get back into her enclosure to the extent that I just gave up and rehoused her in a bigger one. So much for nice and calming lol. At least I got to snap a pic of her.

I’m very sorry to hear you suffer from cluster headaches (otherwise known here as the suicide headaches). My ex also suffered from those.
On a brighter note, your sling is gorgeous and I’m very jealous.. escape artistry and all!

I've started calling them FAFO spiders as they'll definently let you know how things are if given the opportunity.....

Sure did lol. That adrenaline rush cancelled out the pain in no time. Life giving you aches and hardships? Just let your tarantulas on the lose and feel that pain be but a memory as you scramble to get those buggers back in place!

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! It truly is a horrible illness and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm very grateful to be surrounded by loving friends and family who help a lot, and I have a great neurologist and meds that work wonders so I can give myself injections to stop attacks in a few minutes. It's the pain pre-attack or shadow pains that bother me the most so that's when I try to distract myself like I did today... with mixed results lol.

She is so so pretty! I feel like I won the jackpot with her being gifted as a freebie and then turning out female. They seem to be bred readily in captivity now so the prices should be dropping overseas as well, as they've done here recently. Highly recommend you get one if you can! Mine has been a treat. 😍

I got a box of spiders in yesterday, all aphonopelma species. 3 of the 4 arrived healthy and hale, one was floppy and unresponsive. Fearing the worst I contacted the shop to let them know I had a DOA. Left the spider on its back with a cup over just in case. This morning I get up and find the sling upright and moving! This little one is getting a resurrection themed name! 😆 I let the shop know as well. Sling is weak, but definitely not dead!

Caught my B. hamorii and G. iheingi grooming at the same time last night. I know it's a coincidence but it's so funny when there's multiples grooming together. It's always someone and my iheringi doing it.

Your spider is absolutely gorgeous, even if she is a jerk.
My girl gets those every month, & ice cream relieves them for her better than her migraine pills. We've been traveling when they've struck, she'll take her pills, & like an hour later we'll stop somewhere so I can get her some ice cream, & her headache is anywhere from gone to manageable before she's even done with it. Worth a shot...

This little monster is with me less than 24 hours and already:

1. burrowed
2. built a trapdoor
3. took a roach in a most impressive takedown I've seen in a while.

Idiothele mira, you got my attention.

I've got three of these and they're all such cool little spiders. Their takedowns are always amazing, although yours raised the bar a couple of notches lol. Great clip!

Well, some bad news at the facility. The Aphonopelma sp Dragoons has munched her eggsack one day from when it was scheduled to be pulled.

The silver lining is the male is still alive and I'm reasonably certain that the second female is paired, so I may get another shot here. Just need to figure out what, if anything, needs to be changed for the next attempt.

EDIT: A few dozen were salvaged as she couldn't eat the whole eggsack in one go, so we shall see if this eggsack can atleast be partially successful. The odds aren't good though.

It's alive!! This is one of my biggest failures as a keeper that I've recognized so far. No she's not traveling through the space time continuum, that is the only viewable space and angle in the entire vial, I'm guessing a defect in the manufacturing because it is just one big blur otherwise 😂😂😂 Presumed molted within the last week and expecting a meal. I did see some legs pop up two days ago when I put a few drops of water on the top of the turret.

This vial is also appropriately sized for at least another inch of growth so I can't really justify a rehouse. It built a turret 3x it's DLS on the surface of the substrate, probably a half inch ago. And I'm a sucker for a turret.

I deserve this

That sucks. Considering that Aphonopelma generally go months without feeding, especially this time of year, this is really confusing - why in the world would she eat her eggsack when she very likely wouldn't take a prey item if offered?! I can't imagine how frustrated you must be, and I really hope you can get a few of the slings to pull through. Best of luck with the other female.
