One of my favourite species of all time - I have a male and female, but the male has always been this tiny runt of a dude. I'm not sure what is going on with him. My female is absolutely glorious and I adore her.I'm kinda having regrets not buying the juvenile female G. grossa.
Is that Tarantulas Canada? I will check and see. but i don’t remember Canadian prices being low enough to drop that kinda cash. Euro imports i have, but IIRC Canadian prices are closer to US prices than european prices, butnif i am wrong maybe i can make it happen, got a couple other importation projects i need to work on first though...I looked into this from Martin. He told me my order would need to be 2,000$ min.
Makes me regret it more but the opportunity came at the wrong time. I got other more important expenses at the moment. Btw, how big can they get? And are they slow growers like other Grammos or medium grower like actaeon? One of my favourite species of all time - I have a male and female, but the male has always been this tiny runt of a dude. Apparently they get big - over 7". My girl is about 4-4.5" right now. Faster grower like iheringi and actaeon.Makes me regret it more but the opportunity came at the wrong time. Here's the situation:Any news on the availability of Grammostola alticeps? They seem almost unheard of lately.
We still hardly ever see G. anthracina for sale as well, is possible to get this tarantula? Wouldn't it be something if alticeps never existed? Here's the situation:
Grammostola alticeps is a valid species, but no one really knows what it looks like. That is because, on a science basis, its description is old and all of its types might be lost or useless to be analyzed.
That said, the mess in the pet started when someone got a Grammostola and introduced it as G. alticeps in the hobby, regardless if one knew about the science basis, it was wrong.
What pet trade have as G. alticeps is in fact, G. anthracina.
I don't know about G. anthracina availability, currently, tbh. In the past, I know there were plenty of them named as G. alticeps in the hobby, don't knoe what happened, though. We still hardly ever see G. anthracina for sale as well, is possible to get this tarantula? I see, that is indeed a big mess. What's the story with G.grossa, is that also a similar situation?I don't know about G. anthracina availability, currently, tbh. In the past, I know there were plenty of them named as G. alticeps in the hobby, don't knoe what happened, though.
It's not that G. alticeps never existed, at some point of Grammostola's history, someone named an individual scientifically as G. alticeps, the problem is, which was this individual? Nowadays, would it be considered an actual G. alticeps? Or it was wrongly named at that time and the species is a synonym of other? Or was it an actual Grammostola?
Got it? Since the conditions of the type material of this species remains a mistery, no one can answer these questions (and many others).
Here's a thread I made last year, it is really messy, indeed.I see, that is indeed a big mess. What's the story with G.grossa, is that also a similar situation?
I'm not the "Grammostola Groupie" for nothing. The only ones I don't have, since they are extremely rare in Canada, are Grammostola anthracina, sp.Maule and sp.North (or Northern Gold).
Grammostola sp. Concepcion
Grammostola sp. Formosa
Grammostola pulchripesGrammostola sp. Formosa Juvenile Female
Freshly moulted and looking fabulous!
Grammostola roseaGrammostola pulchripes Adult Female
Still waiting for this girl to moult. I think I've missed my chance to breed her.
Grammostola porteriGrammostola rosea Juvenile Male
I have two of these tykes and both have turned out to be male. I usually have better luck with...
Grammostola grossa
Grammostola iheringi
Grammostola actaeonGrammostola iheringi Sub-Adult Female - ~4"
Freshly moulted girl - her exuvia measured 4". Definitely already leggier than my actaeon at...
And last, but never least, Grammostola pulchraGrammostola actaeon Sub-Adult Female - ~5"
Freshly moulted and it looks like my girl will still be sporting the red abdomen for a while longer.
They are all rosea.that’s not a a Grammostola sp. “Concepción”. G. porteri mature male yes. Yours does not have the pink chelicerae or the disc shape on the metatarsals to be “Concepción”.
