if you guys are by Antioch you might want to see if troll is interested. that guy rocks! and he would know places. heck, you might want to hit him up anyways and explain that you are part of an establishing local group and are looking for suggestions for places to hunt at.

and nice pic. if i had any skills with photoshop i would add the skeletal bat wings on a tarantula and black that out, and paste it over a pic of like the golden gate bridge, with the cation "SF BATS" it'd be a sweet logo..

That's another interesting idea, a tarantula with bat wings! I was thinking of a bat with tarantula legs....

SF Bay Area Tarantula Society meeting June 30th

The June 3oth SF Bay Area Tarantula meeting was a total success ,with a great turn out of arachnofriends.
We started a little before 11a.m. and went past 4p.m. or so. Everyone brought something to share or sell. There were many tarantulas (1000's), mantids, roaches, tarantula books and a few terrariums . Matt brought his awesome embroided Pokie t-shirts and I'm going to get another one soon.There was alot of trading and buying of all kinds going on.I think that one B.auratum was traded twice within a few minutes (which I took home). I wanted to liven up things a bit ,so i gave away a few things. I gave away to whoever was interested a Juvie OBT,1 Large immature (M) L difficilus,1 large immature (M)A.Geniculata and one mean and aggressive (mm) N.chromatus,plus a few older terrariums.Which every recipient was delighted to get.Keaton got the OBT, which I gave to him under one condition,he had to transfer it from my terrarium to a Thorton vial. He tried for awhile,until I suggested that I do the transfer.Wouldn't you know that the OBT immediatly jumped out onto the table and ran into a crumpled napkin for cover.I picked the napkin up and placed the opened end of the vial for it to climb into.The T was cooperate and climbed right inside. Job well done !
We had a great BBQ that day with chicken, hamburgers and ribs.Of course we had some awesome homemade brownies and cookies to go with it.

Of course I want to thank Ken for hosting this time and John and his family for coming early to help set up. Mostly, I wanted to thank all that attended to our growing SFBATS meeting and bringing some cool things to share or sell.It was a great time of fellowship, some good eats and of course lots and lots of tarantulas.

Here is something I did on this website which is very simple and crude but gives us a "general" idea of our shirt could look like. I superimposed an image provided by the website(you can also add your own from a disc) of a tarantula over one of a bat. Text can be done in any color or size front or back. Remember, this is just a very crude outline of what I have in mind. I like the idea, if it can be done, of the spider bat soaring over the Golden Gate bridge at night but this website had no images of bridges to work with. Also, I'm not sure if it would be better for the graphic to be on the front or the back.

Also, what do you think of this style of artwork? Try to imagine with bat wings attached

Bay Area Tarantula Society meeting

Hi all,
So, let's start planning the September meeting .I'm thinking that we do the same as last meeting at Ken's and that seemed to work out pretty good. Who would like to help me on this one? We need to get the word out to the people that are interested in inverts .We can do some light marketing
Rachel,how is the website coming along? Ken and Keaton have computer experience and it would make sense if they would be a part of helping you getting it off the ground.Let us know if you need any fresh ideas.
John,tell us what you found out about the T shirt design and possible costs.We need an awesome logo first then get things printed up.Who would like to help John with the logo design work?
Brian,would you like to head up the Mt.Diablo hike/hunt in October?
Matt , could you contact EBV for a breeding demo and T sexing talk for Sept.?
I think that covers most of our ideas for right now.

Remember: Tell a friend , pass the word around about S.F.B.A.T.S.

also ken, i can't seem to find a link to watch life in the undergrowth. just the option to buy the dvd for $25...i'll look harder though.

That all sounds great, Rachel! I was thinking it would be cool to have sfbats.com be our website address so I'm glad that's possible. It would be good to have a join page now so we can contact each other by email instead of PMs. We can always make it official later. Good work!

Here's what I have so far. I'll pay for the domain name but may need help on hosting. Not sure how much it is yet. There are some pretty cheap hosts but I need to find one that's good too. Do we want to be a .com or .org? I think they're both available.

These pictures are just placeholders (I got them online) but if anyone wants to send me some pics to use I can start replacing them with our stuff

Nice work, 'cat! I love it! That is a gorgeous pic of a pokie! I'm cracking up cause you put my spiderbat on there. I should have something better in a few days. We need to be careful when using pics we find online to make sure we're not infringing on anyone's copyrights. I prefer .com over .org but it's not a big deal. I'm willing to chip in for a good host, we don't want the new site crashing all the time. Way to go, Rachel!

I'd like to see our logo somewhere on the homepage as soon as we get one finalized.I'll chip in with hosting too.Do you want to be the webmaster or whatever you call it?Maybe someone else can help you with that so we can have two people that are capable with changes.

Aww. .com is not available. Only .org. Is that ok? I can register it today. Or if you think of another domain name I can look it up.
It would be good to have 2 people who could update the site. I'll check out some hosting places and see which one looks best.
