just when I thought all I need is a cute B.emilia adult or something along those lines..you go and drop this bombshell..
Yeah if that is Old World, the neighbors are going to hear me scream.

EDIT:

Nuclear crisis has been avoided, LOL.

MUCH better diversipes shots Jan! :D The problem most people have is that in using the camera's built-in flash the highly reflective hairs get burned out, white, which can't hold any color. More than any sling I can think of diversipes will benefit greatly with a diffused light source ... next time try taping a huge wad of polyester batting or cotton over the flashlight ... It'll cut down on the amount of light but I think you'll be amazed at even further improvement. As for the brightness, try taping two LED flashlights next to each other for more brightness. Diffusion is one of the most important tricks you can employ in most photographs! ;)

Beautiful pulcher btw! :)

Would you believe me if I said "I'm sorry" ? :D

Nope, NW - Avicularia diversipes ;) "Rainbow spider" as slings, once adult they look totally different, but very awesome, too!

Love those diversipes. I need a few.
Go, get 'em! ;)

Wow! That A. minatrix of yours is gorgeous! I think I figured out the next T I want.
Thanks! She's a cutie mostly...

Thanks, Michael! Means a lot coming from you or Chad! I'll try all that next time I'll take a T out to actually take a series of pictures (maybe once my P. cam girl molted, she'll be cooperative enough to NOT eat my face!)? ;) I'm still trying to find out the sex of the pulcher - aren't they sexually dimorphic, too? I guess though, only once adult...like the other Psalms...*sigh*.

Little update on the E. murinus after her rehousing...

Guess it was too dry for her liking (although it looks dryer than it is)...found her sitting like that: She had turned the waterdish against the side of the tank...*sigh*
P1020727.JPG

...and right after I took the above shot, she vanished into hiding. Weird T - not defensive the least so far, rather not wanting to move at all if prodded, but that time runs for cover...ah whatever ;)

I've since dampened the substrate on one side some more and she seems to like it. The new enclosure becomes webbed over more and more with each passing night. Pretty interesting to find each day another layer of webbing :D

"How to sex a T" - video

Just a little video that was requested by some of my YT viewers...although this subject has been covered dozens of times, I put one together.

Based upon the video, I'm starting to suspect (or rather hope for) female with my new G.pulchripes :D However, ventrals are not that reliable, right?

Looking forward to putting the knowledge from the moult sexing part to use, though.
However, in the pulchripes case it will take some time indeed, (s)he actually moulted a month and half ago, if I remember correctly - I was in that pet store when (s)he flipped over on the moulting mat.

In fact, I've been watching that T ever since I went to that store for a book the first time. Always thought the price was incorrect, because it was way too low for its size - and when I found out it really WAS correct, I couldn't resist.

It's not that hard, plus trying to sex a T by ventral only is mostly not 100% accurate, although there are species that are dead easy to sex that way. Good luck with the next molt then and always glad if I could help.

Alright, since a few T's that I rarely see where out tonight, I did a new nighttime video:

...and here are some pictures I snatched...

P. irminia, adult female, ~4,25-4,5" - "Firali" - she's more reclusive than Phaedra, so it was worth taking a pic ;) A beauty, too!

A. geniculata, ~5" female, "Medeia" - having her 1st meal after her last molt ;)

Freshly molted A. purpurea: FEMALE!

Don't know if you guys remember me saying I suspect a male with this one, but with this latest molt last night I was FINALLY able to sex her by molt and am extremely happy to announce: It's a girl! "Iolanthe" has now her FULL adult coloration (basically 9th instar) and although the colors are not completely visible yet (due to her very recent molt few hours ago), she looks beautiful! Absolutely STUNNING T and I challenge anyone saying "Avics are iffy / hard to raise" when looking at this beauty to try and raise them:

A. purpurea, "Iolanthe", roughly 2.75-3" now...

Confirmed FEMALE! (YAY!)

Another try at a carapace shot, didn't turn out too well. Still have a loooong way to go there...

She's gorgeous. Looks like my 7i is a male. But I have 2 more little 2-3i purpureas comin up!

One of my favorite Avics by far.

Thanks, man!

Yeah, I thought this one to be a male and didn't get an intact molt until now. Hopefully at least one of your is a female, too! Certainly one of the most beautiful Avics!

GBB, ~3.75" male, "Thana" - molted about a week ago
P1020776.JPG

GBB, ~3" suspect male, "Spot", - in premolt. "He" got some waterdroplets onto him as I used the wrong setting when I started to refill the waterdish...oops. :giggle:

Homoeomma sp. "blue", "Neelam", ~4.25" male - all legs, very skittish and fast, but oh so gorgeous!

Yes, you HAVE to! ;) Thanks, Michael - I'm trying to put your tips to work and with some I see improvement, with others it would seem I'm too silly to make it work :D

Wow. Those amazonicas are beautiful. I never really looked into them, but your pics have me reconsidering.
They're also one of the biggest Avics when adult ;) But soooo slooooow groooowing... :D

Go, get some! I let Sylva know! :D

So, was doing maintenance today and when about to refill the waterdish of one of the not-long-ago molted A. versicolors, the little (suspect) girl ran out straight onto my hand...time for a short handling vid and some pictures, since I had the cam sitting on the sideboard anyways! ;)

A. versicolor, "Lin", suspect female, ~3.25"+ - on my hand ;)

A. versicolor, "Lin", suspect female, ~3.25"+ - ...and not wanting to move...
