Final enclosure for "Moriko", P. cambridgei female. The transfer went way better than the times before and I do believe she's calmed down quite some. No running, no threats, no biting either...suprise,surprise. Hopefully, she'll feel fine in her new home.

Pics:

P. cambridgei, "Moriko", in the new enclosure (I'll add some better pics later, this was taken through the acryl)

A. azuraklaasi, "Nila", is getting big (around 3" now) and showing her adult colors quite nicely...

A. purpurea, "Iolanthe", 7th instar with nearly complete adult coloration (you can see a wee bit of sling colors still on the abdomen)

B. auratum, "Kamala", after her last molt - stunning!

I love all your photos!

Pics of your cambridgei makes me exited about my little sling!

Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! Yep, will be interesting to see it grow up, don't be surprised if he/she matures within a year...they grow quicker like any other species I own so far...it's insane!

Here's a little vid feeding some of my T's:

And here's some pictures to accompany this post...

Hey Jan, love the photos of Moriko in her new housing! :D Stunning girl. Also I'm very taken by seeing your A. azuraklaasi in the video, really charming ... I think I ought to concentrate more on Avics again. ;)

Thank you for the kind words, Michael! Moriko is one of those T's quite special to me. She's the first arboreal that really acts like a devil but she -has- calmed down some obviously. I just did tank maintenance removing food boluses and refilling water - usually she'd go into TP, this time she simply walked into her hide and didn't even care what I did! Let's hope it stays like that, it's certainly easier for me ;)

The A. azuraklaasi is a doll most of the time, sometimes she's a bit defensive but I seriously think that's just her personality - her response to getting spooked is spinning around and slapping, not running like most Avics do. I can highly recommend them and I'd actually really like to see what kinda pictures you'd manage to do with one, or even A. purpureas... - go for it if you have the chance! :D

Great pics and vids man never a boring thread :) keep it up bro...
Thank you, Sir ;) Glad you like them!

So I wanted to post some better pics of my A. purpureas now that have their adult colorations nearly. Turns out that the that molted a few days ago is STILL not fond of being disturbed: Got a threatposture from her with fangs bared...she seriously looked like an angry Lampropelma sp. sling, than an A. purpurea!
Hence, I tried getting some pics of the suspect male and this one was at least cooperating for 15min before hurrying back into his hide. These are SO photosensitive it's hard to get good pictures of them. If the room is too bright, they instantly vanish, if it's too dark, the pics turn out not so well...*sigh*...anyways here are some taken today morning:

Good, sounds like Moriko is moving out of her wild adolescent years, huh Jan? lol :) Besides their wonderful good looks, I think it may be the diverse and interesting temperaments which Psalmos seem to have which makes them some of my very favorite Ts ... at least that's been the experience with those that I've kept. Sort of a cross between the good-natured curiosity of many Avics and the assertiveness of some of the wilder poecis. hehe

It's hard sometimes not to anthropomorphize our Ts! :D But I'm growing extremely fond of this little fella (or sheila), this pulcher sling I've been working with on the set. Sometimes resting still and relaxed, sometimes casually exploring, and always playing with my finger when I try to guide it around a bit. And just loves to base-jump!! :D

...that is until she takes complete possession of her new enclosure. She was a bit "inquisitive" today, not really annoyed, but certainly "curious" in lack of a better term, why I had to move the flashing thing so close to her ;). As for diversive temperaments I would completely sign that. If you saw the little 2" P. pulcher sling in that last vid of mine at the end (shooting to the top of its burrow lol :D) that one actually is first curious and in a split-second slapping the side of the cup he's housed in sometimes. Once he even slapped the enclosure while I was checking on my purpureas and he obviously felt disturbed :D. My P. irminias are WAY calmer than any of the other 2 Psalmopoeus sp. I own. Wondering what the last 2 I'm getting probably next week, will be... :sarcasm:

Cant beat a nice A. purpurea, just wish that mine would stop eating the males!
100% agree! And yeah, I heard some MF are famous for being male-eaters...

Alright, so extra for you Michael, some pics of "Nila", the A. azuraklaasi. I took her out and she decided to take a walk actually. Ended up in her sprinting over my bed, onto my leg, over my arm and "jumping" back down to the bed! Needless to say I was mighty surprised by that - but she was probably just having fun :D Also a nice pic of "Moriko" attached...enjoy!

"Helloo"...Nila posing (and already planning her "surprise" for me...)
P1020060.JPG

Back on the bed..."I'm innocent, I swear!" :D
P1020061.JPG

"Alright, LAST pic, human! Getting tired of this..:" Too much flash in that one...
P1020062.JPG

After slowly walking up to her jar again, I gave her a superworm for "surprising" me :D
P1020059.JPG

"Moriko", P. cambridgei, totally calm letting me take pictures of her...awesome!

Hope you guys like these ;)

Nice spiders Jan! Pull the Psalm lady out, chase her around and get pics of her. It'll help you get used to dealing with fast, defensive spiders. Then you'll won't be so timid to jump on the OW bandwagon. Psalmopoeus give me much more grief then any of my OWs. :D

Already "jumping on the bandwagon" - you do realize that my next delivery contains:

1x P. subfusca "lowland" (1st Poeci, yay :D)
1x C. fimbriatus (awesome coloration)
1x P. reduncus (need to complete my Psalm collection!)
1x P. langenbucheri (need to complete my Psalm collection!)
2x A. diversipes (want to give these another try...)

Except the latter 4, the others are OW ;)

As for my P. cam: For the most part, I can deal with her. I'm just extremely careful as thus far I'm not completely able to guess her moves before she does them. Frankly though, my A. geniculata gives me more grief than the cambridgei - being defensive AND kicking hairs like there's no tomorrow is worse than an aggrevated spider that just stands its ground and calms down if left alone.

On a sidenote: "Moriko" is very territorial, being extremely defensive once she had settled into her enclosures. Now, after her last molt, she certainly has calmed down LOTS and I can even work in her cage without any problems anymore. I'm certain, at some point she'll escape on me during such time, but I have my cam always where my T's are so I'll make sure to take some nice pics then ;)

Random pic of "Adena", B. smithi female:

Thanks Jan, really wonderful photos!! :D That does it, I have to find me an A. azuraklassi now, just gorgeous colors! :) Sounds like he loves base-jumping as much as my little pulcher! hehe (That first shot is exceptional, love it!) Also, I'd have to say your best shot ever of Moriko! :)

Looks like you scored some terrific new Ts there too! :D

Thanks, Michael! That's certainly meaning a lot to me, coming from you! I'm pretty sure if you'd get an A. azuraklaasi, your shots of the carapace especially would be awesome! And yep, she likes base-jumping, though she isn't always in that mood ;) That first shot on the bed was actually after I coaxed her out and she was pretty slow, but right after I took that pic...she took off! :D
Not so sure about the shot of the P. cam, I like some others better. But yes: Certainly looking forward to that delivery (once it cools down some!) - it'll sure be a challenge getting all those fast T's at once, although I'm pretty sure it'll go fine.

So since your comment encouraged me, I took some actual pics of the biggest of the 4 Euathlus sp. "red" / "fire" / "flame"...whatever you wanna call them...and my guess was right: 0.5" - and those are 1 YEAR old! Geez! Although I'm not a fan of doing so, but I'm trying to powerfeed them to see if that actually speeds them up a little. We'll see, if it doesn't do anything visible, I'll just feed them like my other slings once per week.

"Am I stretched out far enough?"

"What are you up to?"
P1020067.JPG

"Uh...close up personal? IT'S BLINDING DAMN IT!"
P1020068.JPG

"That's better.."
P1020070.JPG

"Melaena", 7th instar A. purpurea after I tried to get her out of her hide...NO WAY! I missed the threatposture by a second. This one will become a handful, I'm sure...

I'm dead serious, Michael! Linda had those hatching 08/2011 these 4 are some of the actual "bigger" ones she had. I can only imagine how long it'll be before they're around 2" and half-grown!
Regarding the A. purpured: One day I'll succed and getting a pic of her threatening, after all - I get that chance EVERY feeding time, lol :D
Looks like my new T's will be shipped out tomorrow (here's hope the weather bears with us) which would make them arrive most likely friday...yay!

Regarding defensive/territorial T's:
I should really know better than poking my A. geniculata, even if it's ever so slightly: She was eating the roach I dropped into her cage a couple days ago (eventually found it obviously) and I thought: "Since she's eating, I'm gonna prod her ever so slightly once to take a picture" - long story short: WOW! Totally didn't expect her to go rampage: Drop roach, "teleport" to other side of the enclosure, bite plastic, do OBT stance and hurry back to pick up her roach being totally p'ed off!
All that within the blink of an eye - I'm REALLY glad I used my long straw and not the tongs that she could've climbed up easily! Why do they always want to bite me straight away...geez... :(

Some pics of her after she picked up that roach again: "Medeia" a good 4.25" actually...she made a 1.25" jump in the last molt - normal?!
P1020075.JPG

Looks even grumpy, doesn't she?
P1020078.JPG

A. amazonica sling, "Keeva" - these grow soooo slowly. Can you confirm that on your end, Chad?

Uhm, well. I'm nothing compared to the "big guys" here, like Chad or Michael, but thank you! I'm trying ;)

Thanks, Michael. My A. genic probably just had an extremely bad day that time. I had to move her out of the way the other day to replace her waterdish with a bigger one and she only went back into her hide (though leaving a cloud of urticating bristles for me...), so I'm guessing she was simply p'ed off that I disturbed her while eating. :D As for the A. amazonicas: They just grow so extremely slow...not the biggest eaters either. 1 or 2 crickest (1 per week) and they stop eating until the next molt *sigh*

Anyways, my new additions arrived today. The good news first: Got a 2nd Chilobrachys fimbriatus as a freebie. The bad news: The P. reduncus didn't make it and is a DOA. Already notified the breeder (M. Scheller) about it. Somehow, I really have bad luck with Psalms when receiving them. Remember the P. pulcher? It took 3 (!!) tries to get an alive one! I really hope it won't go like that with the reduncus now... ;(
Either way, all transfers went absolutely fine, with no problems at all. Didn't even encounter any trouble with the Poeci, though that one looks like 1.5" already and probably 3rd instar?

Picture time...

P. subfusca "lowland" - 5 min after transfer starting to dig already, lol :D

Hey Jan! Congrats on the new additions to your family!! :D I wouldn't worry about your Psalmo curse returning ... something like that just couldn't happen twice! hehe

Yeah, subfuscas are very shy, Not too surprising that it's trying to hide already! It was interesting, and maybe just a difference in temperament between two different sets of siblings, but I raised my first subfuscas individually and they hid all the time, while the second group is being raised communally and they're out far more often. :) (Just my experience.) I love subfuscas!!

I hope you can get some more nice macros of the A. diversipes, they look even more incredible when we shrink down to their size. :D
