Hello! I'm Jessica and I am in the Finger Lakes region of NY. I'm a therapist by profession and am an uber nerd (think Star Trek conventions and documentaries on astrophysics).

I had been toying with the idea of getting a tarantula for a while and the husband surprised me for Christmas with a Red Knee. I'm not entirely sure how old it is - it's a little larger than a quarter (legs included) but smaller than a half dollar. I've been reading a ton online and finding things to be a bit overwhelming and heard good things about this forum. I've got about a million and one questions, but I'll start browsing the forum for the answers I'm looking for!

In addition to the Red Knee, I also have 1 dog (had 3 at one point, the remaining spoiled brat is about to be 15), a cat, a multitude of fish, a turtle, a husband, and a set of two legged spawn. I would argue that the husband requires the most adult supervision, however the teenage spawn definitely require the most food.

Welcome! And congrats on joining the tarantula hobby and Arachnoboards. You have found the best place for information for all things arachnid, tarantula, or invertebrate related! Definitely stick to only getting your information from here and doesn’t hesitate to post a question if you can’t find the answer by searching here! That was until I saw Jumping Spiders, and I couldn't help but think they were adorable! So, thinking this was as good a time as any, I did the research and finally got one myself. I'm very new to this hobby and know it's going to take time to get to know everything, but I'm very much looking forward to it all and at the same time getting over my fear. Hopefully Clive (yes that's his name ) is going to help me with that

Hello hello, I'm Al, I'm 18 and from south west England. I've always liked invertebrates but a couple of years ago acquired a strong interest in lepidoptera specifically. I got here through googling how long a caterpillar could go without food to get a contingency plan together, but since I like inverts in all their weird and wonderful forms I thought I'd join you. I am currently invertless but spring holds big things.

My name is Lily and I just got into this hobby less than a year ago. I work at a privately-owned pet store as a reptile specialist where my coworker somehow got me into bugs and stuff! I share a similar story to many, as I used to consider myself "arachnophobic". As soon as my coworker referred to a tarantula's pedipalps as "paws".... everything changed. Suddenly they are the cutest things on the planet I tell all of my customers that they are so sweet once you start to learn about them. I have 3 right now: My Avicularia avicularia named Helena (any MCR fans here?), my Aphonopelma chalcodes named Barbie (because she's a blondie) and my Ephebopus cyanognathus named Opal (after Jack Stauber's short film).
I would love to make some new friends on here and pick everyone's brain as I still have so much to learn as a beginner. I think it is so special that this forum is still alive since 2005! Being a part of it is so freaking cool.

Hey!, I enjoy all things that squirm and crawl I currently have Clown isopods (breeding whey!) Zebra isopods (not yet breeding I think it's because it's winter) and 5 maybe 4 if one dies very young bumble bee millipedes these are my first bought arthropods I have also kept garden snails which bred successfully, various house spiders, slugs and attempted grasshoppers didn't breed before the summer was over.

Well I'm new here and just wanted to say hi.

I'm a semi. Experienced tarantula keeper curre tky have around 50 in my collection a mix of old world and new world. I don't know what it is about tarantulas but I just love them.

I'm also the owner and creator of Tarantulas Web YouTube channel where I show my T's and how I look after them etc

Hello!

I've posted before but now I'd like to post to introduce myself

I'm newish to the hobby. I just found myself last September loving spiders. Before that I was scared to death of spiders. It was both a video by AntsCanada in which he had his P. metallica in the video. I loved it. I was still scared of them but I found that one to be beautiful. I went through another month thinking about that video and then I found a daddy long leg. It didn't scare me like before. It was in my house but instead of killing it I caught it and put it in an enclosure. I have him still and have been feeding him flightless fruit flies but that culture died off and I'm going to be getting springtails soon I hope to feed him but also use for my enclosures. After catching that one spider I started to look into tarantulas. I finally bought one in December. I got myself a C. cyaneopubescens and that's where my addiction started. I then had to get a feeder for it of course. I went with a Dubia roach colony. So now I have a GBB, a daddy long leg, and my dubia. Still saying at this point that I am just going to stay small and not collect too much. Lol. Then I ordered a C. versicolor and T. albopilosus in January. Still being in January of course, I couldn't stop. So I got two different kinds of Hissing roaches. A Common version and a Halloween version. But I couldn't stop the tarantula hobby either. So I ordered a T. vegans, A. seemanni, G, pulchripes, and 2 C. elegans. The elegans is so freaking cute by the way. Imagine a ball pen tip... with legs. It's tiny.

Anyway, I'm addicted to the hobby of having animals. I'm working on a wall for my tarantulas. I'm going to weatherize my garage for it eventually. I've redesigned my life in a way and it feels better. Lol. Just looking at them webbing up or doing a happy dance after a meal is awesome. I hope I can get to know everyone and make friends.

Name is Amanda. I’m taking my long time fear of spiders and flipping it on its head by now taking care of 3 T slings. I Love researching them, watching so many Tom Moran, Tarantula Kat, Dark Den, etc. videos I feel like they are distant relatives. I took extremes in researching their enclosures, habits, needs, traits, and the most reliable breeders. I’m here for more information, a broader community, and maybe another dose of my own immersion therapy.

Hello all!

I always had an interest in keeping tarantulas but my previous living situation did not allow for it. When the opportunity presented itself, I did a ton of research to educate myself in order to decide on a first tarantula prior taking the plunge. I ended up getting a couple different ones and I am so glad I did. They are all so adorable and I look forward to adding more to my collection in the future.
