Hello there. My Name is Marie and I’m that sort of person which can’t live without pets. I just love animals.
The more fascinating the better I’d like to say, but they’re all if you look close enough.

I’m new here because I have some questions about some true spider species which are quite rare in my country. Or at least I’m bad at finding information about them which I really need and sought for some advice.
I’m as well always into learning more and love to talk about things I’m obsessed with - like our little hairy friends.
A thing most here hopefully have in common.
Forums in my country are not active at all or mainly just about T’s which I love as well, but it’s mostly not that hard to find good informations about them.

I’m taking care of insects and spiders for two and a half years now since jumpers got me over my phobia. Even cured my little nephew and his mother will be soon too.

My Zoo contains, next to lots of other animals:
- 1.1.2 G. pulchripes (yes I like them…the male was my first T.
I take care of it but I gave it to my nephew which can’t take care of a spider. Obviously because he is 5 and his mother would’t either.
So the female is a backup, he wont notice Blitzi Max is gone when his time is over. I’ll tell him that I was wrong - he is a girl - shed and got bigger ;)….the other 2 are for me :D

besides:
- 0.1.0 Tliltocatl albopilsom /hobbyform
- 0.0.1 Lasiodora parahybana, hope he or she does not destroy his or her next shed AGAIN completely so I can sex it some day… eventually.
- 0.0.1 A. geniculata
- 0.0.2 D. pentaloris, same here with one of them - LEAVE IT! You’re not supposed to roll the opisthosoma to a goddamn paperball after you’re done with that shed every time!!! Soaking it didn’t made much of a difference…
- 0.1.0 B. hamorii
- 0.0.1 N. chromatus
- 0.0.1 C. elegans, which is already sexable too but decided to make a hungerstrike half a year ago. Looked for it a few days ago, found the chamber and was greeted with legs so I was calm again.

True spiders:

- 0.3.1 E. walkenaeri
- 12.7.150ish P. regius white Bahamas
(My first female gave me in total 7 eggsacs with over 600 babies so far…I’m not counting anymore…)
- 0.0.4 P. regius/ ometepe (?)
- 3.3.1 P. carneus
- 0.1.xx(?) M. muscosa, which I will release into the wild when spring comes. My Bf saved mommy and daddy at work from running into oils or stuff like that, we mated them and try to do nature a favor. Daddy is gone since a few months due to age but he had a nice retirement with his Gf.

Then there is as well
- Hierodula membranacea L5/6 male
- some Therea regularis
- And a bunch of Gromphadorhina portentosa which I still consider as pets and not food in contrast to other cockroachbreeds I have. And well none of my T’s is big enough for them until now.

I think that’s all my crawlers right now :)
Sorry for any typo.
I hope for a good time with you guys.

Hi all, I hope you are well. My name is Jordan I am 30 years old and I am from South Wales UK.

I started keeping invertebrates when i was 15 to help get over my irrational fear of spiders.
I initially kept the Pandinus imperator as i could get them quite easily and very cheap ( at that time) but i could never make the move and own tarantulas as i would let my fear of spiders get the best of me.

A few years back I helped a friend move a bath tub from a shed and inside the bath was the biggest common house spider i have ever seen. To cut a long story short, I helped the spider to safety and realised that its true spiders that truly scare me and I had a greater fascination rather than a fear response.

Last May i got my first tarantula, a G. pulchripes sling and it was the best decision i have ever made.
He (i think) has had a few molts with me now, has put on some size and is the perfect eater. I now have 6 tarantulas and 2 AFS. My fear has gone.(apart from true spiders, haha)

Hello! I'm Jessica and I am in the Finger Lakes region of NY. I'm a therapist by profession and am an uber nerd (think Star Trek conventions and documentaries on astrophysics).

I had been toying with the idea of getting a tarantula for a while and the husband surprised me for Christmas with a Red Knee. I'm not entirely sure how old it is - it's a little larger than a quarter (legs included) but smaller than a half dollar. I've been reading a ton online and finding things to be a bit overwhelming and heard good things about this forum. I've got about a million and one questions, but I'll start browsing the forum for the answers I'm looking for!

In addition to the Red Knee, I also have 1 dog (had 3 at one point, the remaining spoiled brat is about to be 15), a cat, a multitude of fish, a turtle, a husband, and a set of two legged spawn. I would argue that the husband requires the most adult supervision, however the teenage spawn definitely require the most food.

Welcome! And congrats on joining the tarantula hobby and Arachnoboards. You have found the best place for information for all things arachnid, tarantula, or invertebrate related! Definitely stick to only getting your information from here and doesn’t hesitate to post a question if you can’t find the answer by searching here! That being said most of what you are wondering will be listed somewhere here in the decades worth or threads!

But this is a great place to start since you are new:https://arachnoboards.com/threads/tarantula-information-for-beginners-and-more.318718/

Thanks! I actually went down the rabbit hole with these threads last night, but it appears some of the links are broken, presumably because they are old.

Hi, I live in the UK. I have been pretty much terrified of most spider the majority of my life. I've been interested in watching videos of people looking after their Tarantulas for a few years now (though the thought of getting one myself still scares me!). That was until I saw Jumping Spiders, and I couldn't help but think they were adorable! So, thinking this was as good a time as any, I did the research and finally got one myself. I'm very new to this hobby and know it's going to take time to get to know everything, but I'm very much looking forward to it all and at the same time getting over my fear. Hopefully Clive (yes that's his name ) is going to help me with that

Hi and welcome! :)

We are sorry to hear that some of the links you found were broken (unfortunate nature of the beast). If you could kindly start a private conversation with me and provide the links to where you found them, we will have a look and see if anything can be done.

Thanks,

Debby

Hi! I'm Mikkel from Western Pennsylvania. I'm a zookeeper and often work with spiders and invertebrates at work and as pets. I currently have several species of isopods (Blues, Dairy Cows, Armadillos and nosys) I also have cave crickets, Eastern lubber grasshoppers, and my lone spider, Maxwell, who is a bold jumper. I also have a lot of reptiles, amphibians, fish and houseplants. I have been thinking about getting a tarantula for some time now but I haven't yet.

Hello, I'm Kellan from Ontario, Canada. I'm 28 and I've been obsessed with inverts (both terrestrial and aquatic) my entire life. I'm also very into plants - started with indoor plants, and I've recently begun growing some outdoor plants as well.
Periodically lurked here for years, but I finally went and actually made myself an account. Cheers!

Hello hello, I'm Al, I'm 18 and from south west England. I've always liked invertebrates but a couple of years ago acquired a strong interest in lepidoptera specifically. I got here through googling how long a caterpillar could go without food to get a contingency plan together, but since I like inverts in all their weird and wonderful forms I thought I'd join you. I am currently invertless but spring holds big things.

HELLO!!!
My name is Lily and I just got into this hobby less than a year ago. I work at a privately-owned pet store as a reptile specialist where my coworker somehow got me into bugs and stuff! I share a similar story to many, as I used to consider myself "arachnophobic". As soon as my coworker referred to a tarantula's pedipalps as "paws".... everything changed. Suddenly they are the cutest things on the planet  I tell all of my customers that they are so sweet once you start to learn about them. I have 3 right now: My Avicularia avicularia named Helena (any MCR fans here?), my Aphonopelma chalcodes named Barbie (because she's a blondie) and my Ephebopus cyanognathus named Opal (after Jack Stauber's short film).
I would love to make some new friends on here and pick everyone's brain as I still have so much to learn as a beginner. I think it is so special that this forum is still alive since 2005! Being a part of it is so freaking cool.

Peace!

Hey!, I enjoy all things that squirm and crawl I currently have Clown isopods (breeding whey!) Zebra isopods (not yet breeding I think it's because it's winter) and 5 maybe 4 if one dies very young bumble bee millipedes these are my first bought arthropods I have also kept garden snails which bred successfully, various house spiders, slugs and attempted grasshoppers didn't breed before the summer was over.
CLOWNS ARE MY FAV!!!!

Hello,

I'm Rickey, owner of Indigo Black LLC. I mostly breed Drymarchon species (snakes), but I also keep Tarantulas.

I currently own the following:

0.0.2 Grammostola pulchra (Brazilian Black)

0.0.2 Psalmopoeus irminia (Venezuelan Suntiger)

0.0.2 Hapolocus sp. Colombia (Pumpkin Patch)

0.0.2 Davus sp. Panama (Lava)

0.0.1 Davus pentaloris (Guatemalan Tiger Rump)

0.0.1 Brachypelma smithi (Giant Mexican Red Knee)

0.0.2 Poecilotheria metallica (Gooty Sapphire Ornamental)

I'll be honest, I won't be posting much. I'm more of a forum lurker and just read a lot. This goes for all forums, nothing personal to this one. I just like to absorb knowledge and quietly sit back and do my thing.

Hei!
My name is Nina, I'm 26, from Germany but moved to Canada last summer. I work in IT, volunteer at a shelter and love to play Dungeons and Dragons.
Got my first tarantula (A.Seemanni named Irene) just 2 weeks ago. Found so much great information here and now that I've officially joined the cult, I created an account!

Hello!

I've posted before but now I'd like to post to introduce myself

I'm newish to the hobby. I just found myself last September loving spiders. Before that I was scared to death of spiders. It was both a video by AntsCanada in which he had his P. metallica in the video. I loved it. I was still scared of them but I found that one to be beautiful. I went through another month thinking about that video and then I found a daddy long leg. It didn't scare me like before. It was in my house but instead of killing it I caught it and put it in an enclosure. I have him still and have been feeding him flightless fruit flies but that culture died off and I'm going to be getting springtails soon I hope to feed him but also use for my enclosures. After catching that one spider I started to look into tarantulas. I finally bought one in December. I got myself a C. cyaneopubescens and that's where my addiction started. I then had to get a feeder for it of course. I went with a Dubia roach colony. So now I have a GBB, a daddy long leg, and my dubia. Still saying at this point that I am just going to stay small and not collect too much. Lol. Then I ordered a C. versicolor and T. albopilosus in January. Still being in January of course, I couldn't stop. So I got two different kinds of Hissing roaches. A Common version and a Halloween version. But I couldn't stop the tarantula hobby either. So I ordered a T. vegans, A. seemanni, G, pulchripes, and 2 C. elegans. The elegans is so freaking cute by the way. Imagine a ball pen tip... with legs. It's tiny.

Anyway, I'm addicted to the hobby of having animals. I'm working on a wall for my tarantulas. I'm going to weatherize my garage for it eventually. I've redesigned my life in a way and it feels better. Lol. Just looking at them webbing up or doing a happy dance after a meal is awesome. I hope I can get to know everyone and make friends.

Take care and hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

Name is Amanda. I’m taking my long time fear of spiders and flipping it on its head by now taking care of 3 T slings. I Love researching them, watching so many Tom Moran, Tarantula Kat, Dark Den, etc. videos I feel like they are distant relatives. I took extremes in researching their enclosures, habits, needs, traits, and the most reliable breeders. I’m here for more information, a broader community, and maybe another dose of my own immersion therapy.
