Nothing new, no moults, no new additions..
Here, some pics from "watering" the tarantulas at least

My little smithi girl, Adéla, seems to have become less skittish, and stood perfectly still for a photoshoot.

Shiro, my G.pulchra, attacked the water stream, the little devil.
Didn't manage to catch it on cam though..oh well. Can't wait till (s)he gets some coloration..

Ozzy the AG doesn't enjoy the lid being opened, went sulking in the corner

My tiny GBB Indy didn't like being caught in a crossfire of waterdrops :D

Even Taz felt uncooperative..perhaps (s)he wanted to keep that cricket leg in the waterdish..

Igor watched the pouring water from the top of his cave.
First time I dared to make shots this close. He's been a real model.

I really love this shot

Long time no update. Well, things have been happening, I've got a bunch of pics but just didn't feel like it. Actually a lot happened - a few moults, including my G.pulchripes Igor, who got confirmed as a male yet still not mature, and having outgrown his enclosure, I went to a monthly exotic pets expo to get him a proper terrarium. Oh boy. Came home with a 30x30x20 cm glass enclosure - just perfect, a 12[SUP]3[/SUP] cm neat cube (with side opening - YAY, no more web destruction) for my little versi, who started webbing almost immediately, so I guess that means 'accepted'..

...and this gorgeous girl.

Got her dirt cheap, recently moulted female confirmed by exuvium. Neither camera available at home does her justice, she really shows why it's called RED colour form.

I'm thinking about naming her Nana - japanese for "seven" as she is my seventh (and possibly last) tarantula. Then again, I said the same thing about Indy (C.cyanopubescent sling, my #6)

Well, at least now you're sure the pulchripes is indeed a male ;) I'd say you need a female of that species :D

Nice pictures, bro.

Yeah, after moult I'd be able to say male just from the build, look at him, all lean and lanky.

And....no. At the moment, I just can't breed tarantulas and take care of couple hundred slings, nor do I want to. When he matures in a year or so, I'll send him out to the world, so he can get some. Somebody somewhere definitely has a pulchripes girl waiting for my man.

The rosea had her first meal, a roach, yesterday. She's just so gorgeous. And to think I wanted to get a B.albo juvie unsexed from my fave pet store instead..

One day I WILL upload a substantial quantity from the loads of pictures that piled up on my hard drive.

Well, not today, too tired. For now, have the magnificent "Poecilotheria versicolor"

Molts, updates, things happening! Oh well, been sitting on a pile of pics so let's have some. Tinypic is being a BLEEP and keeps trying to BLEEP me over today so I hope the images load.

It's peculiar how a different camera can make the same T look entirely different.
On the compact cam, Taz the A.versicolor seems more turquoise or however is that colour called...well, more copper green-ish

Meanwhile on dad's cam, (s)he looks brilliant cupric-sulfate shade of blue with metallic sheen, a bit close to real colours (reality lies somewhere in between, sometimes depending on the angle I'm looking from)

Bonus: In The Pale Moonlight

actually a flashlight

Taz recently found out that after shedding skin, the current tube web is small and started constructing an 'upgrade' this week. No pics of that yet.

Indy the C.cyanopubescens webs heavily, I had to destroy the lair once but it's already rebuilt...but the silly spider is so clumsy, getting tangled in the threads during food hunt :D (s)he's a great eater after having moulted not that long ago.

A different angle - and different leg colour! :D (same cam)

As mentioned, Igor, my now confirmed male G.pulchripes got himself a fresh new exoskeleton as well. Looking good, having settled down in the new, larger terrarium.

Aaaaand that's the end of Part One, I don't have the patience to fight with tinypic anymore.

Has it really been that long since I posted new photos? Well, here's part 2:
You might have to refresh the page once or twice to make all pics appear.

Ozzy the A.geniculata got some new colours since then as well..

Yay for weird post-moult poses!

Still reclusive and camera-shy. I also had to move his waterdish several time back and forth, he likes to dig under it -
-and it would be a bummer if it dropped down on him.

This cam really sucks at close-ups. At least Ozzy still has his appetite.

Shiro is still being Shiro. A fat G.pulchra, cutely irritated at every commotion. Doesn't seem to be in any hurry, moult-wise. In fact, (s)he's the only one from my spider gang, excluding the 'newbie' RCF rosea, who hasn't moulted recently.

Lookin' good..

just not that much like a velvet black tarantula yet :D

And will stay that way for some time more.

I still haven't 100% decided on the name for my newest addition, G.rosea RCF female, a gorgeous one, I daresay.

Any suggestions?

Maybe I should name her Pig, she's always getting dirty.

She eats like a pig, too, quite surprisingly for me. Oh well, I was told she moulted a few weeks before I got her.

She does enjoy her roaches (earlier photo, different cam, too)

A peculiar thing about her is that she seems to use her spinnerets constantly when she moves and webs all over.
I feel stupid for avoiding roseas till recently, she's one of my most interesting spiders atm, both behaviour- and colour-wise. For example her carapace, brick red from an angle, metallic pink from another - and brick red with metallic pink "flower" from yet another angle :D

And now for something completely different...or not. Adéla, technically my first tarantula, albeit only by a couple seconds, finally gave in and moulted after quite some premoult time - and what a beautiful B.smithi she is now!

First preview, through the water-stained plexi:

Doesn't seem to have grown that much, but she's so pretty :D

Fun fact: Her "knees" seem to be changing colour depending on from what angle you're looking

More

And even more (I ran out of funny captions long ago, and now even out of the insightful ones, too)

She munched her exuvium pretty thoroughly, but I've been able to unwrap the abdominal section by drenching it in soap water, probably more vigorously than I had to, but well, haven't planned to keep that one anyway.
So here it is, still soaking wet, but indeed a girl, unless I'm horribly incorrect :D (the breeder, who had a trustworthy reputation, confirmed her as female long ago but I just wanted to see with my own eyes - and to know whether I can see it :D )

"I keep telling you, that guy just sits at his computer instead of serving us. Look at him!"

"You chould hafe owdewed chochroachef."

"Don't talk with your mouth full!"

"Huh?" *burp*

"God dammit, I'm trying to sleep here!"

"I thought roaches just fall from the sky...hmmm.."

"If I had a face and palms, I'd facepalm."

Cast (in the order of appearance):

0.0.1 A.versicolor "Taz"
0.0.1 G.pulchra "Shiro"
0.1 B.smithi "Adéla"
0.0.1 A.geniculata "Ozzy"

Glad you find them amusing.

"But it's not amusing that they keep me from sleep with their pointless chatter!"

"Yes, especially YOU!" *points to the RCF rosea*

Today's experiment: Mobile phone camera versus Grammostola rosea RCF

I think it turned out surprisingly well..

Though I still have to get used to positioning the cam somehow.

Spiders vs. cellphone camera session #3: Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens

Exclusive footage of my freshly moulted GBB sling, Indy. I'll post session #2 (Taz) someday later, but this is 'hot news' :D

Still got the tiger striped rump and golden carapace, yet undertones of blue are already showing on the legs. Fascinating.

My couple slings should molt soon again, too. Pushing 1" hard now...

The male I have will probably mature with the next molt ;)

I'm guesstimating mine at 4cm DLS now, it's so leggy! I need to investigate the exuvium but it's obviously small, not to mention mangled and tangled in web.

Is that what I think it is? Or more precisely, what's not there?

Hmmm, still kind of bummed out about that GBB most likely being male, as can be seen above :/

Oh well, have a Spiders vs cellphone camera #2, Avicularia versicolor

Spiders vs. cellphone cam #4: Acanthoscurria geniculata, approx. 4-5cm DLS
Ozzy's quite fresh after moult, unfortunately the exuvium was too badly mangled. No telling whether Ozzy is in fact Sharon yet.

Tried to shrink the pics a bit less this time, let's see how it turns out..

p.s.: being a little paranoid on the geniculata or brocklehursti thing, can they be recognized at this age/size? All I found was about adults.

One difference coming to mind is the fact that brocklehursti have more "bad hair day" hair, while geniculata have very straight, "combed" hair. Aside that, spermathecae (in case female) looks different. Got lucky with mine since it's a female so no doubt there ;)
