I'm pretty sure that's the closest a tarantula can get to looking smug...

Congrats on the sac, and good luck with the H. lividum pairing. I hope it's less frustrating than the GBBs.:)
Thanks. I hope so too. He's pretty small in comparison, so it will be interesting...

Awsome set of pics man!...good to see the versis are doing well!, and congrats onthe metallica molt!.
Thanks! Yeah three of 'em have molted twice, the last one just keeps on eating. They're all doin' awesome!

Sure, though I'm just using a point-and-shoot, so if it's super tiny, I won't be able to take anything:p

Nice shot of the metallica spermathecae! Good luck with the pairing. :)
Thanks! Now, if only that male would mature... but he still just keeps packing the crickets away!

New post in the (sorta) new forum!

So sad stuff ahead of the good. There's something wrong with my L. violaceopes.
She started laying on the floor/walls of her old enclosure looking like this, and out of her hide. She'll actually start to curl sometimes. I have her in a humid temp enclosure for now where I can observe her. I hope it's nothing serious and she snaps out of it soon! (I candled her, and can see she is gravid too).

And now, the cheerier stuff!
It's been three weeks, so I pulled the GBB eggsac tonight, and I'm EXCITED! I haven't seen her, or the sac since she sealed herself off in there.

She was not impressed, and put up quite a fight!

But, she was no match for me, and I emerged victorious.
Here are the spoils! It's huge!

And hey, they're not black!

There are 232 of 'em. Some are clear, some are cloudy, and some yet you can just barely see the legs and such taking shape underneath (at least, I hope that's what I'm seeing...)!

Meanwhile...

Mama's looking for her eggs... and not quite as thin as I thought she'd look, which is good.

So I give her the eggless sac back, which she takes immediately.

No hard feelings?

I hope I can get these eggs to second instar... if they're fertilized at least!

Congrats on the babies Hobo! They're super adorable!

Also, where did you get the enclosures for your A. Avic and P. Irminias? :giggle:

Congrats on the fertile egg sac, Hobo! Would love to see more gbb babies in the lower mainland!
Just wondering, how did the pairing of your H.lividum go?

Thanks!
The Avicularia is in an exoterra nano tall which you can find in most pet stores.
The male P. irminias are in Snapware pasta containers which you can get at most home/kitchen stores.
The female is in an OXO container with the suction top. You can also get these at most home/kitchen type places.

As for the lividum pairing, it didn't go so well for the male.
He made his way into her burrow, I'm pretty sure they made contact, and then he got eaten. I don't know if he got any inserts, as they were both in the middle of her burrow and I couldn't see. I hope he was able to do the deed before she ate him!

Congrats on the GBB sac! Got my fingers crossed for you that they get to 2nd instar without a hitch. :) Nice shot of the P. metallica female as well. I wish my big female was still around. :(

Bummer, sorry to hear about the male getting crunched man. I sure could have used him from you, but let's hope he got his soldiers close enough to her girlie parts before sacrificing his life! I was just reading up on the successful breeding reports of this species, you might want to give this thread a gander and pick up some tips from the guys who have had luck getting their females to drop a sac.
Haplopelma lividum Breeding Reports

Good luck again with getting the gbb's to 2nd instar, and gorgeous shot of the P.metallica female!

You lost her? I'm sorry:(. but I thought I saw a pic of her not to long ago in your pic thread?

Yeah, I've read that thread and most of the threads pertaining to my other adult spiders... you know, just in case.
The trend for success for most species seems to be having seasonal changes, so I've been trying to just keep them as synced to local seasons as possible (beats having to do the work myself!), while making some adjustments (obviously not going to subject my rosea to Vancouver Spring humidity, for example!).
H. lividum seem a bit tricky, so I hope it goes well, if indeed she is fertile. Thanks fer the heads up:)

Ok Update time.

First, a nice pic of the A. avicularia

And the proud mother of the first instars, The GBB mama.
I took that old sac a couple of days ago finally, and she's now out and about.

And, last night, the first of the post embryos molted into first instar!
Can you spot him?

Here he is!

Joined by a couple more on the way...

And a whole mess this morning!

So far, only one of those cannibals (the ones with dead egg remains attatched to their fangs) has molted.
I hope being cannibals hasn't screwed them over somehow. I tried removing those eggs way before they were black, but they were stuck on good!
