Anyway, here are a few shots of my B. boehmei/baumgarteni (I still don';t know which, hope to find out soon!). She's about 5" now!

With flash...

Without...

Got a real good shot of her spermathecae too.

Yup, I think she's a girl... but I may have to wait for a vent shot to confirm ;P

Here's a video of her, whatever she is...

Well my versi eats more than my A. geniculata, I mean her butt is really huge and still I feed her only once 14 days and A. geniiculata 2-3 times a week(she's not adult yet). Damn hungry ts! :D

So, I gave him an ultimatum this morning.
DO OR DIE.
He will be locked in with the beast until he gets eaten or mates.

After three hours of doing absolutey nothing except slowly turn to face the female, I had to get ready to go to a doctor's appointment. As I was leaving, I see him slowly inching his way to the druming female!

Crap! Had to leave him. I ain't saving his butt this time. Said my goodbyes, it was nice knowing ya.

When I got back an hour later, she was where he used to be, and he was at the opposite corner, with an "escape web (you know when you spook your tarantula and it bolts, leaving behind a thick strand of web?)" trail leading to him from where the female now sat (insertion then ran? I HOPE SO!)!

He was twitching, and heading right for her!

So, I'm thinking he got an insert while I was gone and booked it because
 • there was an "escape web" trailing behind him, suggesting a quick getaway, consistent with males boling after mating.
 • if he had just run before getting insertions, he would have done it like he did in the vid, instead of bolting
 • he stopped right before insertions, perhaps because his palps were now empty from the previous insert?
 • he had to have done it, damnit!

I think he done good, so I let him out, and back into his enclosure.

Whaddaya you think?
Gonna try again this weekend.

I hope the female doesn't count this as a mating from him... you know how they get after mating with a male...:(
She was very nice though. I'll give her that.
I would've eaten him.

A new sperm web will tell the tail...lets hope he whips one up ;)
Haha his whole enclosure made of sperm webs.
He makes at least one every night. I'll get a pic when I get home. Hope he doesn't get munched now that he's found his mojo.

So here's a pic of my male GBBs enclosure.
Spermwebs... spermwebs everywhere...

And those are the ones he leaves up. There's still a ton he's taken down/webbed over. I can't ever tell when he's made a new one:(

Regardless, I paired them again last night, from 1am, until he was he was literally kicked out the front door at about 7am. I sat there with them the whole time:barf:

Good news is, he seems to have found his mojo (though it takes him like 4 hours to get in the mood).

Unfortunately, I believe it's now the female who isn't putting out.

As you can see, when the female is typically supposed to rear up with fangs extended to allow the male easy access, she instead jsut elevates slightly while backing up, apparently discouraging the male from pursuing her further.

This happened about 18 times last night:barf:.

So, I was ready to get him out, but he wouldn't cooperate when I tried to prod him in the opposite direction.
So I let him go at it one last time.

This time, despite the females reluctance, he pushed forward underneath, and just touched her furrow when....

scratch, skitter skitter skitter!
*thud*

She apparently snapped and chased him out, getting a fangful of her own web (yes, she's biting down the the edge), and the male had lept out and landed into his enclosure that I had left on the floor (I guess I should do these on the floor from now on, my bad!). Unfortunately, by this time I had stopped recording all their mating attempts!

Here's his slighltly revealed left palp, showing he had it unhinged while mating. It is usually tucked in flush against his palp, so you can't see the end.

So, a close call, no insertion (unless he did it in a split second), and he gets to live. The female has been very kind so far, but I suspect both of their patience is wearing thin.
I hope he gets an insertion before becoming dinner (which I'm starting to think is inevitable)!
