Had some long-anticipated molts yesterday and today, with my Pamphobeteus sp. "Manganegra" (sadly now confirmed male) and, crucially, Siti-my female Phrynichus orientalis-molting. In Siti's case I have been unable to see if she molted fine as she threw the molt on the floor and went back to lurking out of sight, but given the size of the enclosure I think she probably molted fine.

A. Germani had a somewhat surprising molt. I knew she was starting premolt, but wasn't expecting her to have already molted when I checked tonight! 20231008_211908.jpg

0.0.1 Homoeomma chilense molted today, it might be 5/8" DLS now (but probably not).

0.0.1 Euathlus sp. "Tiger" molted 2 days ago, and it grew? I mean it looks bigger than the exuvia in there, but it doesn't look bigger than it used to...

And then being immediately forgotten when a roach dropped on it's head.

Oh yeah? What's the story?
To put it succinctly in a nutshell, it was found and described by hobbyists who literally had a tarantula hawk wasp the size of your hand drop a paralyzed MF at their feet in the Kelabit Highlands in Borneo after close to a decade of searching.

Had something interesting happen last night. Had two borderline adult Aphonopelma females, both WC, sync up their molting periods with the weather in my area. Had a 0.1 A. sp nov and 0.1 A. sp Dragoons molt last night after a large swing towards storms this week. My facility is pretty stable in temps/RH, but you can see the data clearly points to a barometric event culminating yesterday/last night with a temp/RH/pressure rollercoaster.

What's interesting is the A. sp nov last molted in May of this year, so a ~5 month molting interval for a borderline adult Aphonopelma female is pretty unheard of. Also, the Dragoons that molted last night was the one I was waiting on to molt, NOT the one I paired ~2 months ago. Luckily, the MM Dragoons is still around and kicking. Hopefully, I'll be able to get this female Dragoons paired in the next few weeks as well.

How do you sex this species given its lack of a spermatheca?
They can be sexed ventrally. ;)

My aphonopelma serratum Sally has moulted 😊 1.5 inches on the moult and even though it was ripped pretty sure she's a girl. She must have moulted a few days ago as she had chucked the moult and after I took it she came out to see what I was doing . Nosey girl 😆 20231016_102334.jpg 20231016_102553(0).jpg 20231016_102015.jpg
Really happy with this girl she moults fast for an aphonopelma, eats like a pig and is already starting to show some of her adult colours, I look forward to watching her grow. Well done Sally 😊👏
