Luca (G. pulchra) molted yesterday! He’s been burrowed up since November, except for a few brief burrow openings to get a couple of meals in April before sealing up again.

His last molt was September 23, and I’m guessing he’ll be about 2.25-2.5 inches now.

He gave me quite a scare, actually. I was away at a conference for a week and was pretty sure when I returned on Saturday that his abdomen had darkened when I checked on him, but it’s hard to tell with a G. pulchra through a dark little window on the side. Yesterday, I got home from work and checked on the spiders and thought his head was crushed up at a strange angle and thought something awful had happened, but then he slowly turned and I saw he was actually just a brand new boy sucking on his fresh molt!

I have only a blurry photo because he’s still burrowed up, but his legs have since darkened, and he’s looking beautiful and extra black!

One of my C. elegans juvies is molting rn! Didn't even notice earlier since they're molting on their side and I just thought they were being goofy 😆. Not going to get a better pic cuz I don't want to bother them but the carapace is fully out and the legs are starting!

It's hard getting any work done when this is happening on the shelf next to me....

Edit: Molt was successful! Can't wait to see how how big they are! (Again an absolutely garbo pic lmao).

Pamphobeteus ultramarinus AF moulted 20/06/2024
Which is a shame as she had been paired but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes.
Best pic I can get atm as not disturbing her.

AF brachypelma smithi finished molting this morning, went to fill her water dish and managed to pull her molt without disturbing her... its a pretty clean one! I wanted to compare her to one of my female hamorii that molted a couple of weeks back but the molt was barely hanging on from falling apart so didn't wanna mess it up by unfurling it, here's the pic anyways, makes me feel itchy just looking at it haha.

Moult collage below (not the best pic of her yet in new clothes but she seems happy in there so no point disturbing her)

My two GBB slings. One molted a couple days ago. The other molted just this morning. Came down to the tarantula room and saw one of the slings still on its back stretching its legs. So cool to see! IMG_7092.jpg IMG_7091.jpg

A moulted skin has appeared outside one of my P. irminia hides. Be interested to see how big it is now, probably about 2".
