All Hail! One much anticipated new years day molt for me! 0.0.1 Acanthoscurria geniculata Astrolabe. They're nearing the 4 inch mark, not bad for a spider that was half an inch in April. View attachment 464127
I feel ya. Both my Avic types hold onto their molts for months.Well, my A. purpurea took out the trash today at least.
If I had to bet though, I'm guessing it actually molted back in like... November.
It's my MM irminia who's driving me nuts -- he molted on 10/29 and STILL hasn't even cracked the seal on his web fortress, let alone taken out the garbage.I feel ya. Both my Avic types hold onto their molts for months.
Hikkomori Irmin will leave his fortress of solitude when he's out of hot pockets and anime and not a moment sooner! It's my MM irminia who's driving me nuts -- he molted on 10/29 and STILL hasn't even cracked the seal on his web fortress, let alone taken out the garbage.
Oh my MM irminia still lives with the shell of his former self, but he does come out now and makes a lap around the enclosure, checking for females. Tap on the right wall, “Any females over here?” Tap on the back wall, “Hey ladies!…..” Tap on the left wall, “Where my ladies at?” Tap on the front wall, “Anyone…? No..? Alright, peace out!”It's my MM irminia who's driving me nuts -- he molted on 10/29 and STILL hasn't even cracked the seal on his web fortress, let alone taken out the garbage.
That completely passed me by... When did they pack Nhandu back into Vitalius and the **** WHY???I wish I could get a better picture of her but this was the best I got from this extremely reclusive girl who is more fossorial than terrestrial. Vitalius chromatus (ex. Nhandu chromatus) adult female, Hjördis, now pushing 5.5-6" and sporting a fiery red butt.

I read through that paper again last night and it will definitely make your head spin. Lots of switching and switching back and new combinations... Gotta keep those taxonomists busy!Thank you!
Such a stupid thing!
The problem with taxonomy is that, in addition to science, a lot of narcissism and competition between individuals and countries also play a role. In a really serious and reputable system, this constant back and forth wouldn't exist (at least not to this ridiculous extent). Often people don't work with each other - as I think it is necessary - but against each other...I read through that paper again last night and it will definitely make your head spin.
