Airstream - Ornithoctoninae sp Vietnam Silver (don't know if I'll ever spell that right 😂)

PXL_20231228_063458702.jpg

I tried rehousing a few days ago. Put in a consolation cricket and it threat posed it for so long he/she was drooling. I've never any defensive behavior, so I figured it was getting ready to molt. I felt bad leaving it like that and it appears to be larger than the enclosure now. I tried to tell them, they wouldn't listen.

Molts today from:

0.0.1 Phormingochilus sp. Sabah red sling, will be around 1.25" DLS (bad pic):

0.1 Psalmopoeus pulcher, Rubia. She'll be 5.5" DLS:

0.1 Thrixopelma pruriens, Olive, about 4.5" DLS. I love their gold carapace and orange trim right after a molt:

Your bad pictures are still visually pleasing, keep em coming. When do you usually decide on a name?
My son usually chooses the names when I show him pics of what the sling will look like once it's grown (with some suggestions from me). Sometimes we have to adjust when we sex them down the road - for example, our T. albo was named Hagrid (Harry Potter phase) until we found out it was female, so she's now Hagatha. 😆

When I get groups of a single species I tend to use things like the Greek alphabet or Latin numerals, because I think P. emeraldus Unus, Duo, and Tres is more interesting than 1, 2, and 3. I also have a lot named after planets, constellations, Greek gods, and Tekken characters.

1.0 Harpactira dictator, about 4.5" DLS. I was sure he'd continue my streak of MM's, but it seems that we'll have to wait until next time.

Yeah, he wasn't happy with me taking pictures...

0.0.1 Aphonopelma sp puebla molted yesterday. 20231229_130503.jpg
Tiny weirdo decided to molt vertically against their burrow wall. Not a molting position I've ever heard of before, but whatever works.

0.0.1 Avicularia variegata, 1.75" DLS (suspect male - you can see some of the blue starting to come in on the front legs):

0.0.1 Ornithoctoninae sp. Ranong blue dwarf molted, too, but no pics.

Also, the 2 recently molted above both turned out to be female...

One much anticipated new years day molt for me! 0.0.1 Acanthoscurria geniculata Astrolabe. They're nearing the 4 inch mark, not bad for a spider that was half an inch in April. 20240102_163616.jpg

1.0 Ybyrapora diversipes, molt measured 3.75" DLS, but I'll bet he's over 4.5" DLS now. I expected him to mature with this molt, but I guess he's just going to be a large MM when the time comes!
