My little Homoeomma chilense molted again last night. For being a slow growing species, it molts pretty frequently - just doesn't really put on size when it does...

Neischnocolus sp. Panama is also on it's back this morning:

Another molt this morning, this one deserves a separate post...

A couple months ago I ordered a trio of Grammostola sp. concepcion slings. Two out of the three were DOA. You can see in this pic that this sling was essentially drowned in the shipping vial because too much water was added during packing. I left it to dry out for several hours, but it was still unresponsive, so I stuck a pin in it and sent a pic to the vendor. The replacement was also DOA (which is the second one), but that's another story.

I went back to clean up about 6 hours later and noticed the pin was moving around under a paper towel - the sling had come back to life and was moving around with the pin sticking out of it! I very carefully pulled the pin out and put the sling in the condiment cup I'd prepared for it, not expecting much. Here you can see the pin hole right in the center of it's carapace:

I have been feeding and watering it about once a week, but it never took any food and I never actually saw it drink. I was pretty confident that I would eventually find it dead, but this morning I found it had molted and looks great! 20231126_101721.jpg

You can still see the pin hole in the carapace of the exuvia:

Yet another example of how resilient these slings really are. I hope it eats soon, will know in a few days...

Yep. Psalmopoeus males mature fast! My female is in premolt now and should be molting within the next few weeks, so this may be good for both of us... I'll hit you up when she molts!

My Liphistius cf. Yangae "Suwat" trapdoor spider molted today. It must have just finished because it's not even turned the crazy blue-green color that it turned while it hardened last time it molted. Not sure how to sex these from the exuvia, but if those long legs are any indication this may be a male.

It'll get rehoused into a deeper enclosure once it hardens and has a meal or 2.
