I hate to be the one to break it to you, but she really looks like a mature male. I might be wrong, but from what I can see of the pedipalps and extremely long, fuzzy legs, I'm thinking it is a male that had his ultimate molt. That kind of size gain is typical of an ultimate molt, as well... Hopefully I'm seeing things, though.
I thought those looked like pipe cleaner legs, too. :-(

Yep, that's another clue. The setae on the legs of MM's will stick out to the sides, forming "fins" of sorts on the sides of the legs, where females will retain that sleek look where the setae are mostly flat. I think I can also see a hook on leg 1 in the pic above, sticking down from the tibia...

Anyway, assuming he is an MM, I think you'll probably be able to find someone that needs him for a breeding project. You can easily turn that into a handful or more of slings if you work the deal that way.

I only noticed this because I've had several of my Psalmo's molt out as MM's in the last few months... 🙄

I looked for hooks and at his palps as soon as I saw the pipe cleaner legs, but didn’t see them. Not experienced with this species and only got that pic before he vanished. Molt is down at the base of the cork. Sold to me as presumed female, but of course no guarantees. Have to find him a girlfriend soon. 🤞

All three of my Omothymus schiedtei juveniles have molted (two several days back and one just today); one of them is def male.

My other Avic avic m6 sling has also molted successfully, as has my juvenile Poecilotheria metallica (several days back) and one of my two Cyriopagopus hainanus juveniles.

One of my two juvenile P. victori molted into a subadult a few days ago, and it tossed its molt today. Confirmed female! (I've suspected she was a girl for a while but this clinches it).

Time to find a new name for her...

Not a great pic but the first time I have personally witnessed a tarantula during the molting process. Ron Rojo, T kahlenbergi, is on their back,🤞 for success.

Over an hour and still no movement from this tiny sling. Now, I’m worried. I can’t see for sure, but I don’t think her carapace has popped.

They (all tiny slings really) can take a maddeningly long time to molt after they flip, but generally speaking once they pop the whole process is over in a few minutes. I was worried about my little H. orellanai sling for the same reason the other day and had to find something to do to take my mind off it. Eventually I went to bed without checking on it again and the next morning it was done and perfect. I also had to remind myself that even if something did go bad there was nothing I could realistically do to help a sling that was less than 1/2" leg span anyway...

Be patient and positive and things will be good. 👍

@NMTs Thank you, that helps a lot. I distracted myself for an hour and a half, but coming back to her still on her back with legs flaccid is worrisome. I’ve been fortunate so far that all my openly viewed molts have gone smoothly and reasonably quick for their respective sizes. This one is my tiniest yet, though splayed out like she is, her leg to leg now measures an inch. I don’t know how you do it with slings less than 1/2”.

I don't think there are any issues - my D. sp. Panama is very slow when it comes to molting, too. You'll be able to tell when the carapace has popped and the process has begun when that very taught abdomen around the book lungs starts to wrinkle - them you'll know she's started sliding out the other side. Can't wait to see the florescent orange colors when she's done!

Whewww! It looked like she was having some problems getting her very tail end and spinnerets out. She molted prosoma out first (completely), then abdomen. She flung herself side to side until she finally wiggled free (first jerking her Cephalothorax and later her abdomen). I was ready with the paintbrush, then cheered as her spinnerets came free with a final butt flick. Looks like she gained a good bit of size, too (for a dwarf). Of course now she’s chillin in vampire pose forever. I see she will be the most challenging to my calm, lol.

Didn't wanna say this while you were in the midst of it but 98% of my molts have been on slings under 1/2"

😅

Heck yeah!! That's great news. Amazing how colored the abdomen already is. Love the colors on this T. Glad it pulled through without issue.

Just awesome. 😁
