On a side note, I too love the name. It has inspired me to work on creating my own group, American Society Studying The Outrageous Methods Of Unusual Terrestrial Herps. Something mainly based up here in the north east. Reason being, I'd love to hit the TITTIES fest, but can't make the haul down to Texas. :8o

Graham might crash out in our room if he comes on the trip, but Im not sure if hes going to make it or not. I think Gil is rooming with me too, if he can go. Ill bring my army cot and some extra bedding just in case.

Do you know when you are getting here yet? The Friday and Saturday before the trip my bar is having a big brisket cook off and I promised to work it. But you are welcome to come hang out and chow down with us. I have the rest of the week off before the trip so you are welcome anytime.

Hey all Titties participants, just fyi, when you reserve a room and refer to the Titties group, or drop Sky's name, they will say they send out a written confirmation. Just be aware they don't seem to bother to. I double checked and they do have my booking recorded.

Hey guys, sorry I keep forgetting to get the gear list together. Ill post one up here, and Ill also email everyone a copy to make sure that everyone knows what to bring. So here goes:

Required Gear:
  • Sunscreen!!! Must be water and sweat proof, and at leats 45spf. The sun is very intense in the desert, and this is absolutely essential.
  • Good over the ankle hiking boots. In West Texas, if it crawls it bites and if it grows it sticks.
  • A hat to protect your face from the sun. Even though everyone will have sunblock on, the sun can still burn your eyes and lips very quickly. This is just to help protect your face.
  • Tweezers. I want everyone to have their own tweezers for sanitary reason. Everyone, and I mean everyone, will at one point stumble into a cactus. (Or sit on one!)
  • A Camelbak. These are backpacks with a specially designed compartment to cary water. Water is absolutely the most important thing you will bring with you when on a hike. These backpacks can be found at Walmart or any other sporting goods store for pretty cheap. I got one of mine at Wally World for $20.

Recommended Gear:
  • A small first aid kit for scratches and scrapes. Ill have a full kit for everyone just in case, but it would be best if everyone could treat themselves. We will be hiking in some rough terrain, so its best to be prepaired.
  • Some thin longsleeve shirts for the hiking trips. Its going to be hot, but it keeping the sun from hitting your skin directly will help reduce the risk of sunburn or other heat related conditions.
  • Thick hiking pants, or jeans, that will help protect your legs from cactus thorns.
  • A flashlight and/or blacklight if you plan on hunting at night for scorpions.

Random stuff you might also need:
  • A swimsuit for the times spent at Lake Amistad and Balmorea.
  • Sunglasses.
  • A book for the long drives.
  • Allergy medication.
  • Plenty of clean underware. Everyones been joking about it, but Trust me, its important. For example: I was once squatting over a burrow trying to tease the little bugger out, when I realized that my pants were quickly filling up with ants. I then proceeded to strip down to my skivvies and run around the area frantically. I think I gave away Victoria's secret. Hehe.

If anyone can think of anything else, let me know. Im always forgetting stuff.

On the mornings before each trip, everyone will need to purchase plenty of water for the day, and fill up their Camelbaks. Ill also keep a cooler with some ice water in my truck for refills, but dont skimp, and dont try to mooch off anyone else. Dehydration can happen before you know it in the areas we will be in.

Also, I really need to stress how important it is for everyone who is going to email me and let me know. Im the sole organizer of this event, and I NEED to know how many people will be going so I can make sure all our reservations are correct. Thanks!!

/Sky

Hey all. I have yet to reserve a room but I'm still looking for a roommate if anyone's interested. I'm 15 and will be going by myself, so if you want to room with me, my mom might grill ya. :p

And here I go ruining his fun! {D

Ya know, my mom conscience just won't quit screamin at me.. the logistics and rationality are winning and I think a few days relaxing would do me some good, too! Soooo.. looks like I'll be going too. (Jared's mom, Denise, for those of you that don't know me, which is most of you on this board.. lol)

For the sake of mentioning it in case someone needs a ride to or from the airport I'll be flying into Midland the night of the 24th or the morning of the 25th, and we'll leave Sunday afternoon (29th) out of Midland, too. I don't know how much of the daily running I'll be doing with you guys, though; I might just have to lounge the week away. :)

Sky, thanks a million for this - I even enjoyed it last year and that's saying a lot.. lol

See ya there!

I for one am glad you are coming on the trip! You cook a mean steak! ;)

Id appreciate it if you could email me your flight plans once you get them, so I can make sure I have it planned to pick you up. One other person is driving to Midland, and I think we will caravan from there.

(Im going to feel like a kid taking the driving test to get their license for the first time with you in the truck, hehe!)

Oh, for anyone else flying or driving into Midland, I have a special treat for us on the way to Ft Davis. Well, sorta special. We are going to make a quick side excursion to the Longfellow Ranch, to see a one of the first major oil drilling projects in that area. Its pretty awe inspiring.
