B-E-A-utiful collection!
Thank you, M'am!

Had some updates I wanted to share actually. First, "Phaedra", my P. irminia girl finally molted and got HUGE. She's approx. around 5" now and looks just stunning. Sadly, she didn't decide to come out so far, I was only able to pull out her molt - which, I should mention, she totally destroyed. However, "Takhisis", the H. villosella molted a few days ago and just today, "Moriko", P. cambridgei molted. All T's are fine and the molts went without any problems. Attached some videos about that stuff.

So my A. geniculata (suspected a girl) finally molted yesterday and I was able to extract the old molt today. Here's what I found out:

Female!

Here some pictures after upgrading my P. cambridgei "Moriko" to her new enclosure:

Say "cheeeeeese"!

Molted on June 14th, 2012 btw (she was pretty nice this time, although I assume that's because her fangs are still red :D)

nice stuff as always jan.. your collection is looking real good.
I may be getting an azuraklaasi soon, and was wondering if youd wanna shoot me a PM on your opinion of them.. we seem to like a lot of the same stuff so i trust your judgement/opinions

Thanks, curious how big that A. geniculata got now after molt. It's still hiding so far...
Oh and you have a PM ;)

You're building up a nice collection Jan, nice pics! :)
Thanks, mate. There aren't too many species that I'd like to add left now though. Most notably the E. spec "red"/"fire", A. juruensis, Psednocnemis brachyamorosa most likely and surely the last 2 in the hobby available Psalms, langenbucheri and reduncus...ah, either way - maybe ten species, but no more. Until then and once I've "studied" enough material, I'll probably try breeding some of them, we'll see.

Cant beat a nice P. irminia, still one of the most stunning tarantulas imo. :)
Absolutely!

After 3 months in my care and being healthy and fine, my A. diversipes suddenly died. 2 days ago, it was on it's webbing fine when I fed the other slings. Wasn't interested in food so I left it alone. By midday I noticed it was one leaf down and half on its back and thought it's gonna molt. In the evening (9hrs later) it was on the bottom on it's back with no molt to be seen. I decided putting it extremely carefully into an ICU. 2 days passed now and it's still not moving nor reacting, so I believe it's dead. Shame, but what can you do? That T was perfectly fine the last 3 months and was doing great, now suddenly this...no idea what happened.

On the same note, my A. avic molted yesterday and since I got the molt out completely intact, was able to sex it:

Ordered new T's...

So due to my A. diversipes having died (RIP, Amitola :() I placed an order for 2 new T's together with some substrate, waterdishes and the like. These seem to be kinda rare in the hobby, since I don't see them offered often, nor kept a lot by hobbyists. Interesting enough, it's the only species of this genus that is actually somewhat aggressive - at least as far as I'm aware! - all others are described as being quite shy and seldomly kicking hairs nor bite. Anyways, I'll be getting 2 Thrixopelma pruriens "Chilean Green Velvet" (click HERE for pic) - just had to snatch those, as the deal was too good to pass on. 6 EUR for 2 slings? No way! MINE! :D So, these should arrive either Saturday, or Monday even, depending on when the store ships them.

Also, my big P. irminia girl "Phaedra" finally showed up in all her glory after her last molt! The pictures don't do her justice at all, as she's simply stunning and, best of all, STILL mellow! (SO amazing how tolerant this specimen is, it's seriously leaving me without a word to describe it!!!) I was a bit worried she'd turn into a demon after that last molt, but alas, she's still only moving her fangs as warning and I tend to take that serious and leave her be in case she does. I'll also attach a vid to this post once it has uploaded so you guys can see for yourself. (Don't be surprised, I still take precautions knowing these are somewhat unpredictable, however I do trust myself to know her well enough by now).

Enjoy the pictures!

"What'cha thinkin' about my new coat, eh?"

"Yeah, I suggest you do NOT get TOO close, alright?"

"Wait a sec, something's moving down there..."

"No really, I'm SURE there was something moving, gonna hunt!"

Thanks, Jeff. But no, she was the one I started with in the hobby (together with my B. smithi). She has a webtube on the other side of the enclosure going all the way from the top to the bottom behind the artificial plants. I hadn't seen her out and about for over a month due to premolt and molt, though. Now, 2 weeks after molting she finally appeared outside and I just couldn't resists prodding her carefully out a little more to check on her temperament and see her in her full glory. She's an awesome T.

Thank you! Glad that my pictures persuaded you to get one. If treated with respect, these are awesome and beautiful T's to own! I'd suggest you get one from advan for example ;)

I bet you could do that for him! ;)
Thanks, Chad! These are probably mine, too. I just love, love, love their stunning contrast in coloration. Plus, they have personality, different in each specimen, but usually loads of it :D.

Beautiful irminia! That Homoemma is beautiful as well, very nice!
Thank you! I can't wait to see that (suspected) girl getting her adult coloration...even more beautiful than as a sling/juvie!

Some pictures shouldn't be missing in a new post...

Psalmopoeus cambridgei, "Moriko", 5" female happily nomming on her superworm... (SO freaking defensive this T...)

Avicularia versicolor, "Sylva", 6th instar, ~2" unsexed, starting to prepare for re-coloration (next molt probably?)

...and some older feeding footage:

Last but not least, I won't be getting those 2 Thrixopelma pruriens since they are sold-out. No new T's hence, but we'll see, maybe I'll get some new ones from one of my trusted breeders here, we'll see.

Sweet! That website is awesome!
Yep, I got it from someone who's really great with that kinda stuff.

Love the Ts and pics :)
wish we could get those species here
Thank you. It seems, the aussie T hobby is kinda limited to your own T species?

My Brachypelma smithi, "Adena", actually molted tonight - she didn't take that long this time from showing the black abdomen to actually molting. Last time, she took her time staying a month in that stage, this time it was merely like 2 weeks.

Here's a little vid with some stages of her molting (including her turning back on her legs) which sadly has the WRONG molt picture at its end (my bad, sorry):

And here's the best part about it, her molt: 100% confirmed female!
