Threat posture from my Avicularia azuraklaasi upon opening it's enclosure?
P1010412.JPG

Further inspection reveals: Premolt! She has since webbed heavily and I basically wait for her to molt any time now ;)
P1010413.JPG

Avicularia amazonica 3rd instar being VERY hungry! Ripped that cricket right off the tongs ;)

Another shot of my Homoeomma spec. "blue" after rehouse

Worst day in a long time...however, here are some pictures...

This guy molted the mites it had attached to it out and is since even eating again...*phew*

Brachypelma smithi, "Adena"
P1010434.JPG

New addition: Brachypelma boehmei - just 1"
P1010457.JPG

The most I've seen of the P. irminia sling for over a month...that hole is now closed again and I suspect it to molt again soon...

The new P. pulcher I got today wasn't looking good and is an ICU currently, hopefully it'll recover, but I doubt it.

Some pictures:

No death-curl, it just isn't moving, only twitching sometimes with a single leg, that's about it. Molted not that long ago presumably to the breeder. NO idea what's wrong with it. Certainly neither dehydrated, nor any visible injuries...*sigh*

Another new addition and very small, too: Tapinauchenius violaceus

Sorry, my lens seems to have been a little dirty.

Here's the housing video of those 4 new T's:

Ah that is a shame about the pulcher, hopefully it surprises you and recovers now. Good to see the versi is doing well now too.

Congrats on the other new additions, all the best with them :)

Oh man, I'm sorry about your pulcher. Some shipments are just rough, it sucks. May have been too hot or too cold. That's really too bad, cute little guy :(

Nice pics! Sorry to hear about the pulcher, hope it recovers well for you :).

Thanks guys, I had to euthanize the little guy as there was literally no life in anymore and I didn't want it to suffer any more. I put it into the freezer and will receive a replacement today for it. However, checking on my T's today morning, I find the new A. juruensis (2nd instar) with pulled up legs on the bottom of it's enclosure and not reacting at all, but move it's legs a little - so this little guy is now in an ICU, too. It does raise it's legs, but doesn't walk anymore. I'm really asking myself what the hell is going on with this delivery. All the other T's are fine, H. incei, T. violaceus are doing well...so I really don't know what's the matter. There aren't any visible signs of injuries either...

Jan, how large is the Homoeomma?
It's around 2,75" currently.

EDIT: Here's the replacement P. pulcher, this guy nearly bit me actually when I opened its vial! Guess I was a little bit too fast with getting it out of it's vial. Anyways, housed this little T and threw in a cricket to make sure it's fine (normally don't do that, but talked to the breeder before that and he suggested to try it as the T wasn't fed for 8+ days): 2 rounds of "Cricket chases T" later, the pulcher did a 180 and pounced the cricket. Now it's nomming on it's meal. Here's some pictures...

Some quickly taken pictures of "Nyx", 6" female G. pulchripes (formerly known as G. aureostriata) since the member "dandelion83" asked me to take some pictures for some booklet for the Malaysia Tarantula Society...as usual, she was showing her temper...(good starter T my rear...!)

Calm as usual when starting...

...and quickly showing she is NOT fine with having her picture taken over and over again!

This -seriously- is a BAD week...little Avicularia juruensis passed away, too

Sorry about the little Avic Jan, sometimes these things just happen and they are out of our control.

Very nice shots of the G. pulchripes! Especially the last one! :D

Thanks, Chad! I know, it's likely to be the first ever case of SADS that I experience. Nevertheless it does suck, really. This week is one of those I'd like to erase from this year probably... :(
Helmut will try to find a replacement for me somehow, as this was his last A. juruensis sling, so hopefully he'll find something. If not, I'll get something else from him with another order that I place in the future sometime, I guess. Anyways, very sad since this week everything seems to go down the drain somehow. :(

I'm so sorry :(
I feel you, my first week I got into tarantulas (after so much research!), my first shipment came with 2 doa irminias, and the replacement shipment had 4 versis, 3 made it and then they all mysteriously died while my first versi is still going strong.....then my c.fasciatum escaped and I almost got out of the hobby permanently :(

Don't worry pull through dude, your collection is amazing and your a very good keeper :)

Man that sucks, my A. amazonica kicked the bucket on me this morning as well...
Yeah, first time I became victim of SADS, as there is no other plausible explanation currently. The T was absolutely fine when I unpacked and housed it, next day = dead... ;(

I'm so sorry :(

Thanks, I just try to make them as comfy as I can and treat them well. Something that every respectable (or is it reputable?!...) keeper is doing. As for the rest, that's more personal stuff that doesn't belong here.

Anyways, finally pushed myself to redo Moriko's enclosure (P. cambridgei juvenile female) and she certainly is one of those I'd avoid having run on me: Bitey and nasty tempered as usual ("I take no prisoners" seems to be her way of thinking, as she never once slapped the straw, nope. She instantly bit it, haha!) - it still went well. Here's the little "rehousing" video:

Also, here are some updates on some other T's:

And some pictures.

GBB "Thana" with mites...
P1010422.JPG

...and the same T after his molt a couple days ago and me having removed the molt INSTANTLY after him doing so: NO MITES! And the 2 damaged legs are now fully normal again!
P1010497.JPG

again "Thana", after molt, full view
P1010493.JPG

On that note: Both A. versicolors have molted their mites out, too. I'm really happy that those pulled through and are even eating again now!

Some more pictures (for some reason all of the T's I wanted to make pictures of today, are totally bitey - my A. geniculata actually nearly got my thumb )...ah, well...anyways.

H. villosella "Takhisis" (I think this one is actually nearing a molt, as she has torn apart a good bunch of webbing in one of the corners she usually hides in)
P1010515.JPG

A. amazonica "Kyla" - (in enclosure) - this one molted on May, 11th actually - hence why the colors are so vivid
P1010518.JPG

A. amazonica "Kyla" (on my bed after she didn't really want to be prodded and instead turned around to bite me  - she missed, though and ran on the bed)

A. amazonica "Kyla" (back in her enclosure)

A. purpurea "Iolanthe" again

A. versicolor "Sylva" (the bigger one of the couple I have)

A. geniculata "Medeia" - nearly bit by thumb  - everything coming close to her is considered food...insane. She attacks anything that moves, no matter the size...clear case of overestimating herself
P1010538.JPG

So, yeah, after taking those few shots and having rehoused my evil P. cambridgei girl, I think I'm done for today regarding interaction with T's. Else, I probably get my first tag and that's something I'd like to avoid as long as possible.

As a sidenote to anyone that hasn't experienced a T biting a straw (for example) yet: These little animals are quite STRONG - you wouldn't believe it before you experience it yourself! That geniculata pulled the straw out of my hand (caught me totally by surprise) and then ran up the enclosure walll towards my hand! Was able to retract it in time, just to see her sitting there in the classic threat-posture and wanting to "hug" me...was a close call and totally my fault, but nevertheless - BE CAREFUL when interacting with your T's - accidents happen faster than you think if you are letting your guard down!

Afterwards, I'd have to say it was a kinda fun experience, though. Certainly one that I will be very careful about in the future (guess I made a mistake there myself) I've learned my lesson...
