Gemma is gorgeous! (Patiently waiting on my two to molt...) The pics of A. diversipes are getting you elevated to Enabler status. LOL
LOL :D A. diversipes look amazing as slings as well as adults! ;)

"Neelam", ~5.25" Homoeomma sp. "blue" male - he was a little too close to the waterdish when I refilled the same :D

"Iolanthe", 3.5" Avicularia purpurea female - she's in premolt and seems to have a bet running who webs more - her or the male in the next enclosure :D
P1030316.JPG

"Takhisis", 2.25" Heterothele villosella female - had to redo her enclosure, she has the nasty habit of burying half-eaten stuff in the substrate....

"Takhisis", 2.25" Heterothele villosella female - ...hence took the opportunity to get some pictures ;)

MM GBB and others

Had number of molts during the last couple weeks. One is the ultimate molt of one of my GBBs. He looks pretty small for a male really (4.75" approx), but at least he'll get the chance to pair up with a girl since he's already promised to the breeder I got most of my T's from in the beginning (H. Manstein).

The second thing worth mentioning is the dud-sack my T. violaceus girl made. Surprisingly, I should add! She actually dug herself a burrow (!) after the last rehouse and disappeared completely. Since I haven't seen her drink, eat or anything of that sort, I peeked into the burrow - only to find an extremely annoyed Tappie greeting me with the usual temper! :D

Third thing is the molt of my second A. versicolor which seems to be a male as suspected (need to sex the molt still) but this time at least I got an intact molt so I should be sure soon ;)

Ephebopus murinus showed up after molting!

Wow beautiful spider and pics!! :D
Thanks, Michael! Appreciated :D

Beautiful fimbriatus! Now I want one.
Go, get one! Certainly the most defensive species I'm keeping currently. Extremely quick reactions and not to be messed with...scary!

Lots of great shots and beautiful. T's. :-D
Thank you, Legion!

So, E. murinus was out and judging by the colors after "her" molt, I'm still convinced it's a female. However, the molt is still buried in the hide deep in the substrate, so I'll have to wait to confirm that. Either way, certainly started to be defensive now! I tried prodding her -once- and BAM - she instantly struck the straw! Guess the times of just a stubborn E. murinus are over as she was mighty p'ed off when I tried to move her...*sigh*...yet another T that hates me :D

Some pics:

"Asteria", Ephebopus murinus, 4"+ female - Stunning contrast! What a beauty, right?! So happy I got this one... :D:D:D

"Asteria", Ephebopus murinus, 4"+ female - "I'll sit here only for a few pics, be quick!"

"Asteria", Ephebopus murinus, 4"+ female - this is usually the most I see when she feels disturbed ;)

So, this is a terrible day to report news since the news itself just suck:

My beautiful female Avicularia purpurea "Iolanthe" died :(:( *sniff*. Apparently, she had mites from what I can tell, but none of my other T's shows any (I checked ALL of them right after!) - so her former enclosure is soaking in bleach currently and I'm just sad, since the other couple I have are males afaik. This just sucks...

I might have a chance to get a few new slings next week, though. It's just that I raised this beauty from a teeny-tiny sling and although skittish, she was also pretty gentle.

You'll be missed Iolanthe...

Very sorry too hear about her Jan. :( Had you seen mites on her previously? Nasty things.

None at all, Michael. At that none of the other, incl. sling have them...*sigh*...it's sooo annoying. Especially considering I kept her dry except for the filled waterdish and one spray into her webbing every 2 weeks...

Jan, have a look at this ... it goes against the common wisdom, but by both the tone/language and the authorship it seems authoritative. In any case some very interesting info, such as how microwaving actually sterilizes substrate.
http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/spiders-inverts/388524-guide-mites.html

Both my juvie P. cam and April's AF P. tigrinawesseli had their chelicerae covered with mites and neither seemed any the worse for them, other than being clearly annoyed by them (excessive grooming attempts). I would think that the only time mites may pose a problem is if they get into the book lungs.

So it may have been something else, possibly even the mysterious but apparently real Avicularia Sudden Death Syndrome.
If you kept it dry and removed boluses/dead feeders it seems unlikely that you would have had a problem with 'bad' mites. My only instance of mites was in an enclosure with insufficient ventilation and too much humidity.

Just FWIW. :)

p.s. Speaking of reptiles, scroll down the page at http://thereptilereport.com/category/media/personalities/ ... such a surprise and an honor! :D I've seen some of your photos posted there too. ;)
