Wait. So I've gotta be reclassified as a tarantula? Oh great, I bet there is a lot of paperwork involved...
Oh well. Guess I better start tagging.
@ Ladies of Arachnoboards
:D ;)
Naaa, the same is true of pretty much every species of animals... including humans and possums. No need for any reclassifying. :D

I'm interested to find out what his DLS is. Nibbles matured at only 4.75" and I'm wondering if that's typical, or if he was just a smaller guy.

Alright, on my way home (hubby is driving). Eyeballing him I'd say 5" easy. He's in rough shape and is in desperate need of a substrate change but is active and seems happy enough! Pics to come.

Here he is, the man of the hour. And my cat Jeffrey, staring at him disapprovingly.
He's super active and I definitely found the remnants of some very thick webbing while fishing the hundreds of cricket carcasses out of his substrate. Possible sperm web? My G. porteri lays down some thick webbing but not like that and she's really the only other adult Grammostola I have to compare him to. He's about 5 1/4" DLS @nicodimus22.
I'm a little concerned about that weird white patch on his abdomen...possible mold? The substrate was bone dry aside from a little bit of dampness under his hide above the heat mat but I'm thinking it could maybe be from all the cricket carnage. Could also be poop, as there was quite a bit of it on the walls.
Also whyyy is he so bald.
He's super active, a little jumpy but very docile. I'm a big fan of the guy already. I'd imagine he was quite handsome and spunky in his younger days.
Also his name is now Brock.

The woman (who was extremely kind and pleasant to deal with) also tried to pawn off two blue death feigning beetles on me. I'm not a beetle person but they are certainly interesting looking...I said no because an hour and a half long car ride with one animal I've never met before is quite enough for me.

Thanks. If you had said 6 or 7 inches, I would have wondered what I did wrong. Nibs certainly had plenty of food.

I'm guessing the white thing is poop since the sub was dry and there was some on the walls...may have backed into it or rubbed past it at some point.

When do you get to flip him?

I'll have him until Saturday. It's kind of cool watching him wander around with those long legs and gives me an idea of what my recently sexed G. pulchra sling will look like in a few years. He's so different looking than all my other lady Ts, so leggy and spindly. I wish I could feed him a thousand times and make him big and fat but there were a few live crickets in with him already (which I removed) and it seems like ladies are the only thing on his mind from the way he's walking around.

Very nice. He looks to be in good shape. Once you get him fixed up and fed he should be fine.

Here is what my MM P.fasciata laid down for a sperm web when he topped off two days ago. Well after he tore it down.

Yeah, once he gets to that stage he is likely not to eat a lot. Plus he needs to be slim in case there is a need to retreat. :D

Yeah it was covered in dirt but looked pretty close (as close as a thick chunk of web can look, I guess).

Glad to hear he looks like he's in good shape. I'm really pleased with his energy level and he seems about a thousand times happier to be in a clean enclosure. There were rocks, carcasses, boluses, bits of lint, sticks, etc everywhere so he's settling in well now that he can move around freely. I'll try to feed him in a day or two once he's had time to relax.

Ah I'm not sure if I should use the "funny" or "sad" face for that...o_O

The lady likely didn't clean up for him well and just tossed in some food when she thought she should. Glad you got him squared away.

@Paiige

When I see those pics, I don't see the spider I expected. He appears to be a very healthy MM pulchra and in good shape. He's actually on the plump side for a MM. Bald back half of the abdomen is absolutely normal for a MM, as is being skittish...all MMs are more skittish than their female counterparts...MMs are out in the open roaming, food for everything around them, and then in danger again when they find a mate and do the deed....pays for a MM to be skittish I'm betting.

That stuff on its abdomen really really looks like doo doo.

That is excellent to hear. He really impressed me too, once I was able to look past the balding abdomen. He seems to have plenty of energy as well which makes me super happy!

However. Today he was doing some webbing, I was hoping it was a sperm web...but after watching him for a while, there doesn't seem to be any webbing coming out of him. He's doing the dance and is definitely trying but nothing is really happening. I'm hoping eventually he figures it out.

He's currently grooming, looking like a handsome little monster with those long legs moving around. I'm gonna be a little sad to see him go on Saturday.

Well Brock always was a ladies man
My exact reason for choosing that name :D

Should have picked up the beetles, cool little guys. I definitely recommend them.
I think my hubby might kill me if I brought home beetles. I'm already over the number he gave me for Ts and I'm not stopping :embarrassed:
