You are correct, but what the funny thing is, is that the T that escaped the cage wasn't even a Avicularia spp. THey used two different types of tarantulas for that scene.
That I did not know. I do remember seeing the Pinktoe in one of the scenes about the time that he gets bit and causes all of the cages of Ts to fall over.

And of course several 3D animated ones were walking around.

So then it was a different spider while it was on the back of his neck or was the different one just during the escape?

Yes they're a beautiful T, but they don't define the hobby. Every tarantula should be considered a "holy grail." Just because the colors seem more vibrant to us doesn't exactly make it any more special.
Personally, I find the more simple-colored Ts more favorable. I've always wanted a G.aureostriata or a B.albopilosum and would definitely get both of them before even considering a pokie, even if the P.met was cheaper in price.
I just think that color is overrated. The behavior and the personality of the individual Ts is what makes me and most others cherish certain species over others. I myself am not into the OWs that could possibly jump and bite (I still get nervous around Ts and have a bit of arachnophobia), so I'd never sell my entire collection for one that I'm just not interested in all for color and design if I didn't enjoy it entirely.
What about, say, A.geniculata? They have a nice bold contrasting of black and white, they get to an enormous size, eat like pigs, they're out in the open 90% of the time, and they have awesome attitudes. Why wouldn't they be considered the "holy grail" of T-keeping? Because they're not blue? That's silly imo.

just for your information, TheDarkFinder, you have a screwed up definition of a holy grail. Let's have a poll on that too! Which of the following defines a holy grail:....!

This poll proves nothing.

P. Metallica? Ppppfffff.......G. rosea, baby! :wall: :D

I love all tarantulas. They're all beautiful in my opinion. Definetly the coolest creatures out there.:worship:

Besides, once the Poecilotheria blondi is discovered, P. metallica will no longer be fashionable. :)

Completely agree. To some it is, to others it is not. It is opinion, and opinion only. Notice, I did not make the poll show who voted, show the name of the voter, just the number of people voting.

No reason to get bitter.

Could you tell me what Holy grail means to you? If it is not the most wanted item then what is it? You already said it was not the most popular, so what is it?

i think i describe it well enough in the wiki post. i guess my mistake was to use the "the" article instead of "an."

It's not the Holy Grail in my opinion but I must admit, I desire to add one to my collection like nothing else.

hmm I know "H" words can have an "an" in front of it but i thought that only worked if the word had a silent "h" like "hour" but holy does keep the H sound, so wouldn't it just be "a" not "an"?

I never do well in english class, but that sounds right to me...

by-tor, depends on how you pronounce it. Actually, just checked in dictionary and it should be "a holy" but who cares :).

Really? I really don't know what people like about this kind of pattern.
I think that only Cyriopagopus sp. "blue", Pamphobeteus nigricolor, and imo Heterodoscra Maculata could possibly rival p. metallica. Obviously people have widely different tastes though:?

Cyriopagopus sp. "Singapore blue" all the way baby. I would not describe it as the "holy T" but it is up there in my books. :D

metallica are certainly beautiful, and I would LOVE to have one someday, but holy grail is a bit much. Maybe if they did cartwheels or something.

the way this question is phrased, only fanatics of the p.metallica would say yes (like me). its setup is completely unscientific :D .

This is the be all end all of this argument.

The Holy Grail... absolute must have, in any collection is B. smithi.

Who here that's been in the hobby for 1 year + hasn't had one?

That said it's not rare in captivity, nor is it completely unattainable, but it is, was, and always will be the Hobby Classic.

This "holy grail" thing has definitely changed and will continue to do so. Now this predates me, as I've only been around in this hobby for 3 years but wasn't Acanthoscurria geniculata the "holy grail" at one time?

Personally, I'd give just about anything for an adult female G. pulchra. And B. klaasi and Xenesthis immanis are probably just as rare/sought after as the P. metallica.

when i dubbed p.metallica holy grail, what i meant is most T keepers are aware of their existence and want one; and there's good reason they do. Unlike some of the exceedingly rare spider M. Jacobi mentioned, which don't look all that impressive to me; albeit they may be very expensive and desirable. (btw, no disrespect to Jacobi is implied here - he's a great guy! Got my metallica from him).

B.smithi? I had spiders for 5 years. I have p.metallica but no brachy-s at all. The only grammostola I got was aureostriata freebie, and that surprised the hell out of me - what, free spider?!

Btw, imo, G. rosea is the most common spider people have - after all that's what usually sold at pet stores.
