When you get som

I don't know how many you have, but it honestly don't look like you have too many to worry about splitting. A few options I would suggest is, getting egg flats and have a more organized housing for them, that way they can Finn in the vertical space better, get a larger tote that way you dont sacrifice heat. I prefer the blacked out totes with yellow lids from home depot or lowes, if you really feel you need to separate, I would do it one by one, and do 1 male to every 3-4 females and put all nymphs in with the separated colony. All leftovers use as feeders. I NEVER feed my females off regardless how many I have. 💪
I ordered 450 got a little over half that probably .
Now I have 500+ and only 8 adult female Ts to feed and 2 males .
but I had a mass die off over 100 old ones . I tried regular mealworms as cleaning crew but the roaches just ate them.

I don’t know if the thermostat has gone haywire but I set temperature to 80 and got these readings . And I split some of the colony to another bin. IMG_9116.jpeg IMG_9117.jpeg IMG_9118.jpeg IMG_9119.jpeg IMG_9120.jpeg

I would think it possible for the plastic on top of the sensors to alter the accuracy a bit.

It doesn’t stick without tape is there an alternative?
There are plenty of ways to attach a long thing to a flat thing....be creative. Covering the sensor with plastic sheeting does seem to be a bit counter productive, no?

2 holes and a wire :)

Or just tape the wire but not the sensor.

I'm not sure if it has been recommended yet, but I keep a bag of mixed frozen root vegetables (unseasoned), in the freezer for my Dubia roaches. The ones I buy has carrots, beets, parsnips, and sweet potatoes in it

They demolish the stuff. I just let a few pieces thaw and put it in. I keep this colony fairly small (it's primarily just a display colony), but they have that dish empty by morning whenever it's a frozen vegetable night. PXL_20240610_032659495.jpg

Don't keep these things myself to scared they will escape somehow but here in the uk anyone I know that keeps them sets up like this
I know they all use heat too things won't breed unless it's the right temp ect. 🤞 you manage to sort them out n the vid helps 😊.

yeah I’ll watch it . I can’t find bins that tall here mine aren’t tall enough for those xl egg crates .
I lowered my dubia to 80 degrees but on various checks it goes up to 86 still , hopefully they still breed just not too fast !💨 I’m using a 27 gallon with lots of ventilation holes , and it still gets wet inside from fruit feeding like watermelon. 🍉 IMG_9410.jpeg IMG_9409.jpeg IMG_9408.jpeg

I think that's why Dave uses salad leaf less humidity comes off as the roaches are eating, that and you only need to give what you know they will eat over night.
I found roaches to be a pain tbh I am not a fan and for sure prefer breeding mealworms they are much easier to deal with and take up much less space imo.

yes I knew already but seemed to forget why I quit using melons 🍉 ….
mealworms are easier yes , although I gotta separate pupas which is annoying . My orange head roaches are slightly less maintenance than dubia. although I found another escape! IMG_9436.jpeg

I don't separate pupae at all they go in their box thing as worms I pull out what dies make sure they have the wheat stuff for bedding n fresh veg everyday once I get beetles they get bread n veg n I leave them alone more or less and a month later goes tiny teeny hair sized worms coming out the bottom holes of the viv they land in the wheat stuff sitting waiting for them n it starts all over I have never separated anything just took out dead stuff n put in fresh veg the wheat stuff when I need to 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't even heat them they just live in cricket box in a box on the bench with my t's .

what type of bedding?
Yeah I gotta seperate them or they eat the pupae. Up until a point .
now I’m dealing with a gnat and or fruit fly problem or something. It’s very annoying… I need to get rid of them. IMG_9917.jpeg IMG_9919.jpeg

I use bran I buy human grade from the health food shop on amazon 😆 comes in a massive bag I transfer to big glass lock top jars and just scoop some out when I need it.
In the uk our worms and crix come in plastic tubs with holes all down the side, the holes are tiny n too small for the beatles or adult worms to get through but the bran dust and fresh hatched worms can fit through so the little worms kinda filter themselves out . I put the little tubs they live in in a rub with no lid and that catches the tiny worms when they fall out, I put bran in the open rub they land in so they have a home and dont dry out before I transfer them to a tub like the bigger worms n beatles and it starts all over again.

Luckily I haven't had a fly infestation but I would make a new rub up n use the tongs to transfer the crix/roaches and start again in the new tub bag up n bin the old one once I had transferred the spood food from it and bin the old stuff outside 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk if it would work but its what I would do.

Wish I had custom tubs for mealworms I’m just using plastic storage containers .
I removed all the frass not seeing any maggots or were so many flies are coming from . Really bizarre 🫤🤪
