When flies happen, and they do, I usually just separate the roaches by hand. One by one. Well, usually via cloth and let them climb, then shake into a completely empty plastic tote. Once all there, eye inspection to pick out the ones that look slow/disabled/etc.

Then onto their new bin, paying ever more attention to hygiene and food dishes. Simple is really best, easy to clean and disinfect.

I have been trying to out “wet” food on seperate covers, like yogurt covers. Makes cleaning my feeder bins easier. Especialy with those that have substrate.

With my mealworms i give only a small amount of carrots. I leafy green leaf or two. I remove the stuff often. Its my attempt to avoid grain mites.

I asked the petstore when i last came in to buy supplies. Its been about a month.

I can say i lost maybe 1-2 crickets out of 50. Less then a dozen worms. All my worms gave gotten huge too.

Sometimes changing your routine with how you give food can help. Moist foods will wick moisture in the egg crates and this becomes a great place to lay the eggs.

I keep the food in a seperate are then i keep hides.

I may have to cull a few , or keep cleaning frass every 2 weeks the flies were so bad I had to clean the entire bin. I could throw out the frass but then I’d lose a few roaches .

Looks good, now just maintain it well. Don't let it get wet. Keep water and food in that open area. Clear out dead bodies etc.
Fruit flies I don't sweat too much. They will go away pretty quick so long as you aren't feeding them and letting them breed. He other nasty flies shouldn't show up unless you get lazy in cleaning dead bodies :)

Might want to use a fine mesh for ventilation. Keeps most fly species out.

I wish I had money to buy fine mesh. I hope the flies die off soon I’m sick of them and the grain moths . DIY traps seem to be catching most the flies but I still seen a few .

Surely ou can find an old shirt or something. Anything fine that breathes. A t-shirt cut in 2 can do 2 big kritter keepers ;) things don't have to be expensive...

I would think in the US plastic fine mesh at hardware stores are probably around a dollar per foot for a 3 or 4 foot wide mesh. That's 20 Coke cans deposit :)
