That wolf spider is actually a Tigrosa helluoLast set of pics for today...
This is Orien, my little Phidippus audax buddy that I found walking across the workbench in my garage about a year ago. He was tiny, maybe 3mm, and I decided to try to grow him up. Well, he grew up, and became a mature male a few months ago, so now that the weather is warm I decided to release him into my backyard so he could try to find some ladies to hook up with. He'll be fondly remembered!

While walking around a pond in the neighborhood a couple evenings ago, my son and I spotted a bunch of "jewel eye" spiders - which is what we call them because their eyes sparkle like jewels when you hit them with the flashlight. In actuality, they are wolf spiders, Hogna carolinensis, and we found this beauty that looks to be either in heavy premolt or gravid:

I haven't been able to confirm with a molt, but I'm about 95% sure this is a male based on this ventral pic:

I'm good with that - there's no babies without males!
There's no category for them in the genus galleries, so I'll have to keep posting pics of (him) here.
@l4nsky
Technically, he hasn't even been a assigned a genus yet, so I'm not sure I can get a new sub-folder added for him. Like there's not one for Ornithoctoninae, so we usually just post those pics in Ornithoctonus or Cyriopagopus - but I don't even know which existing genus would be close enough to put him in...If you ask the mods they will make a folder for his sp they did for my sandinista. He is super handsome btw n yes I would agree male too he has the arch![]()
That's not a bad idea, actually - an undescribed folder for the gallery. Would help reduce the number of random pics in other folders for sure...Wow special boy then, they need an undescribed spood folder for when ppl have spiders like that, i wonder if they would do that if requested, there must be more then your boy waiting for a full name.
Out of curiosity does he have a female waiting? I assume if your happy with a male you have a lucky lady lined upjust curious how that works if he technically doesn't have a genus, how can you be sure you have the right female, do they look the same or are they dyamorphic? (excuse my bad spelling
) sorry alot of questions but rather ask someone who's opinion I trust then Google

She's doing well, thanks for asking! She went on about an 8 month hunger strike, then ate for the first time a few weeks ago. She's now excavating her burrow some more and webbing it closed each day, so I don't know if she's going to molt or what - she has not molted with me in the almost 2 years that I've had her, so I don't know if this is typical premolt behavior for her or not.Hows your super-fantastic A moderatum doing? I've been searching for one responsibly raised for a while now.
she looks like she's doing her best impression of a sand spiderMy big female Megaphobema robustum excavating. The amount of dirt she can move in a short time is impressive...
