Hi to all from Oregon.

I've always loved creatures in my home, starting from childhood. I've had many aquariums over the years with all kinds of interesting freshwater species. My current tanks are one with an Axolotl, another with Dwarf Puffers, Peacock Gudgeons, and shrimp, and a small one for snails (for the puffers) and a Betta. I also have a 12 year old Bearded Dragon, and 2 dogs. For all of my enclosed critters, I've always enjoyed setting up their environments more naturally. All of my aquariums have live plants and I LOVE setting up and watching the little mini-worlds.

I've become interested in adding spiders and their little mini-worlds to my home. I'm looking at Jumping Spiders and Tarantulas, although Black Widows are also an interest of mine because they're native here and I think they're gorgeous. (We've found them in our home, and though I don't want them there free, I would love one to stare at that I know would be safe from us and the dogs and vice versa.) I've never gotten an animal without deep diving into research, so that's the phase that I'm at now - collecting info, making lists of species, care requirements, etc. and thinking about the enclosure environments. I'm interested in bioactive if it's doable for the desired species as well.

I've always found forums extremely valuable when it comes to any critter's care, so here I am. I look forward to learning from you all.

Hello, everyone! I haven't been on a forum in years, so please excuse any bumbling. ^^"

I'm Cherry, or you can use any variation of my username. I've been a lover and keeper of exotic creatures most of my life, but have only recently gotten back into tarantulas. My partner and I have quite a collection of herps, and have recently begun breeding. We also produce most of our own feeders for our collection.

My first ever exotic pet (when I was old enough to care for it myself) was a G. rosea when I was a preteen. With all the expos I've been attending lately, I was a bit saddened to see that my first T was rather hard to come by nowadays. Just this last weekend at a local show, I finally saw some rosea RCF slings for sale. Struck by nostalgia, I was compelled to bring one home. She's only about the size of a dime, but I'm already so enamored by her.

Now that I've committed to caring for a T again, I find myself looking into other species and other types of spiders. I'm considering a lot of New World Ts, jumping spiders, and possibly even some Old World Ts as well. I joined this forum mostly to quietly research what other keepers think about different types of spider, but also hopefully to have a place to come if I have questions.

Thanks for your time, and for reading my little intro if you did! Hopefully this will be a cool place to learn and hang out. :)

Hello! I'm a Finnish biology student and I'm just starting to prepare for my first pet spider. I keep some other inverts and fish and have been interested in spiders for a long time. Over the years I've had periods of increased interest in tarantulas and researched their care but never got to the point of actually thinking about getting one.

Recently I had the opportunity to speak with an arachnologist and held a recently discovered tarantula (one of the only two in captivity right now, how cool is that!). That inspired me and kicked my interest into full gear and I dug up all my old bookmarks and dove into research! Honestly, with any animal or plant I think I enjoy the process of researching them as much as I enjoy setting them up and caring for them.

So now I think the time is right for me to start narrowing down which species would be suitable for my first spider and as I'm getting closer to spider keepership i wanted to join the forum and the communally accumulated knowledge if its members <3

Apart from arachnids and other pets I'm also interested in art, books, hiking and crafts (mainly crochet and other fibre arts but I like to try new things). I might venture into to the off topic forums to gush about some those too!

Happy to be here and hope to run into you all on the forums!

I'm not doing any research yet as I'm just doing my bachelors degree! But I'll be doing my masters in the ecology and evolution department and I hope to work in behavioral science eventually, but of course that might change as I progress in my studies
