How do you like your Grammostola pulchra?

I'm not a terrestrial keeper, and not really a big NW keeper either. When I made a rather large purchase, I chose a G. pulchra/quirogai as a freebie to gift to the person who watches my collection when I'm out of town. I had it for about a day, but I could definently see the allure they have. It was pretty bold, ate an hour after unpacking, and was heavily moving earth that night. It's still the only tarantula that I've inadvertently handled (bolted onto my hand during unpacking, but slow strolled after that. That "slow" NW really put me in my place lol). When I expand into NW terrestrials, I'll probably start with a G. pulchra/quirogai.

Yeah Im thinking it may be a good T, to bring and keep at work since they typically seem to once they hhit the large juvie 3-4in range out in the open a lot and dirt mover. Ill probably pick it up on monday, Im just pretty content with what I hhave and havent really wanted anothher to actually buy somethhing since last September.

This dish was completely clean just a couple of hours beforehand; I just knew she was plotting...

It's hard to beat the velvety black look of a freshly molted pulchra.

Gorgeous!!! Well unfortunately the seller gave me his word that he’d hold it until Monday when I was off work to pick it up, but apparently he couldn’t wait two days and sold it to someone else and texted me to let me know lol so no more G. pulchra for me hahaha

The bright side is at least you didn’t give your money to someone that lacked integrity.

I‘ve sold a small number of animals and other things and I would always honor the first come first serve rule and if I agreed to hold for an agreed period of time for either a decision or they could get the money I would. If he didn’t want to wait the right thing would have been to let you know he needed a decision sooner. People can suck. I’m
sure there will be a better deal for something you really want down the road.

I really think that for a tarantula that is "all one color" it's quite stunning and velvety after a molt.

Unfortunately, mine is not a "black lab".
She's a bit bolty and has a really strong feeding response.

Most T's I can distract with a cricket while I fill their dish or spot clean, but she is never satisfied and attacks the water throughout the whole dish filling process.
I use chop sticks to spot clean because I don't want her to bite the metal tongs.

Owned an AF many years. They were popular then, but not pricey. Mine was 50$. She was great, but honestly. No more interesting than most terrestrials. I like my H chilensis far more. Same for my T. cyan.

Even my N incei are far more interesting.

It's all hype. You can get other species that do the same thing, and look the same for less.

They're massively over-hyped tbh, basically just a jet black G. rosea, I don't dislike mine but I much prefer my P. antinous and L. nigerrimum.

While I have yet to own one of these beauties, at least I could go in with basically the same caveat that applies to porteri/rosea. The only difference is their coloration. Who wouldn't want an all-black T ? I would most likely name mine Nightcrawler, after the awesome Judas Priest song from the phenomenal Painkiller album. So what if a newly acquired pulchra decides to go on a several months long fast ? I'm used to it by now, so I can endure it without racking my brain with worry. One of these days, I'll have my own pulchra. Hopefully female too, so I can enjoy her much longer

I have had one for about a year and I like it fine, but it is not close to my favorite particularly after it spent five months buried. I have kind of moved more in the direction of liking OW, so I have lost interest in a lot of the NWs. I have considered selling mine to free up some space, but can't seem to pull the trigger. I do like watching it when it is moving dirt around. At some point I may move on from it, but it hasn't happened yet.
