Just a few picture updates.

I trashed the toilet enclosure for the H. lividum when someone gave me a free 5.5 gallon, so I whipped together a quick burrower type cage.
I basically buried one of the bottles I used to keep my irminia slings in at the bottom and made a tunnel leading down to it.

So I cupped her up...

and put her in, and she made a B-line for the hole.

She has since webbed the inside up, and stays there during the day, and takes long walks at night.

Wish I could say she's settling in nicely, but something's a bit off with her. She hasn't eaten on her own at all since she's arrived (She's been cohabitating with a male cricket, Jiminy, on and off for the past 2 weeks), and wanders excessively at night. on sunday, after shoving the maimed Jiminey under her mouth, and her biting it several times and letting go, she finally decided to eat it. Hope it helps her perk up soon.

Here's a pic of the GBB after 1 week. Gotta say she's started a nice web. added a few windy peices of wood yesterday, and I'll take a photo once she's webbed those up too.

She's been acting a little off too. She took a couple of crickets a few days after I got her, but it took her forever to finish, and she left a huge wet bolus, and clearly didn't finish. Since then, she's been very, very lethargic, and no longer accepts food. Hope she doesn't molt out (her abdomen's still pink), or that it's anything serious!

The female P. irminia molted, and actually let me have her exuvia in non-bolus form! Here she is dragging it out...

And yep, she was a girl just like I suspected! I tried to take a photo of it, but you just can't see it with my crappy camera.

It seems like I underestimated her size too. Her exuvium was a good 3", maybe a hair under... making her now at least 3.25" I think.

Her brothers are doing well too. They're still in intermolt, as I've been feeding them considerably less, and less often. They've made some nice tube burrows though...

And since they don't eat as often, they seem to hit their prey extra hard!

And last but not least, a photo of my P. metallica, who stopped coming out of her webbed up hide and eating for a month so I assumed premolt... but when she started walking around again I tried a cricket and BAM.
Now, she's stopped taking food again, so hopefully it'll be for real this time!

P. metallica molt

She molted last night, and one of the irminia and I were lucky enough to see the whole thing.

On her back...

popped the lid, and underway...

Here's a good shot of her mite "problem" (I noticed these mites sometime after her last molt 4 months ago. I've tried a lot of things - completely drying out her enclosure for a month (and not feeding her for that month, coincedentally), rehousing her, doing that "switch the enclosure" thing every few days... nothing worked. They're just on her chelicerae, and not on the sub, as far as I can see... any suggestions?) They don't seem to affect her otherwise (yet...). It was interesting to watch them "jump ship" as she was molting. Just like their ride, these things are quick when they want to be.

Coming out. got a cool shot of the fangs...

And out!

And of course, first thing she does is ruin the good part of her molt...

The whole time... the female irminia was out. She started out jsut poking out, and started to come down as I started snapping pics. It was really weird since she's never out. She must have wanted to watch, or perhaps wanted a photoshoot of her own. I obliged:)

"Bye, everyone, thanks for watching me undress myself!...
... you pervs."

Thanks!
You should really get the tall ones. They're great for arboreals. That female's 3" and a bit now, and looks like she can have a couple more molts in there before I have to move her.

Thanks, but I can't take all the credit. They're pretty much just cork half-tubes up against the side and fake vines. What really makes them neat is the awesome tube burrows they make!

anyway, cool shot this morning of her stretching in a weird way:

...err I mean OMG U GUYZ SHE WAS IN A DEATH CURL SO I SPRAYED HER WITH WATER AND BLOW ON IT AND SHE WET BK TO NORMOL LOL:} IS SHE GOING TO DIE THOUGH WHAT DO I DO HALP PLS?:wall::wall::confused::confused::?

Took a trip down to a LPS, one that actually cares for their spiders properly (the guy actually used to keep 100s of Ts himself) and found out they had a bunch of new arrivals - at very fair prices.

Long story short, I picked up a female ~3.5 A. avic for $30. Everyone else seems to have one, and now I do to!

Brought my little torch, and yep, female!

So, brought her home, and whipped up this temporary enclosure for her until I can make her a nice arboreal 2.5 gal tank or something.

She's the nicest spider ever. It's like my irminia, but in super slow motion. I just opened up her little KK and she came walking out all nice and calm.

...and into a pepper shaker while I finished up her enclosure.

When I finished puttign the finishing touches, I let her crawl out onto my hand and on to her own, new enclosure (but not before hitting me square in the palm with her poop after disembarking:barf:)

I love this one. Was never really a fan of avics, but I guess I was wrong.

Oh and for those guys living in Vancouver, Check out Aquariums West. They've got a buch of new Ts for sale for cheap, and best of all, they actually care for them properly!

And they only cure is more cowbell- err I mean, more avics!
There, justification in getting more tarantulas!

Thank you, glad you like 'em! Hopefully I'll get more spiders so I can make more enclosures for 'em

Anyway, more pics!

I actually learned something today. My irminia (and I guess other Ts too) actually flicks boli around! I was watering my spiders, and I see my irminia coming out with her bolus in her mouth. So, I reached for the camera to snap a pic, and right when I do, I see her flick, and hear a "tap" on the plastic of the enclosure. I then see the bolus stuck to the plastic across from her hide, right where the camera was aimed!
I looked at the photo, and here's what I saw! She was in mid-flick!
It's a little hard to see, but almost all of her legs are in mid air!

She has good aim, with poo and boli!

...oh and here's a shot of my smithi eating water.

Thanks for looking!

Yep, saw my P. regalis doing the same thing. She'll do it with balls of dirt or boluses. She seems to like throwing them into her plant or her water dish :)
