I felt like a complete idiot (and still do) because after seeing the molt lying in her habitat, I thought she had died. I'd planned on keeping the 'corpse' so I could at least set and display it, but then I noticed a few days ago that there were now two 'corpses' in the cage. She was just hanging out deep in her hide solidifying, lol. I can't get over how shiny and pink she is! I think she's such a beautiful tarantula :).

Starting to get pissy with the camera, XD. She's much more active after the molt.

One last shot before leaving her in peace, hehe. Thanks for looking! She's definitely aiding in my hands on learning experience :D.

Hi, I am tJay (Justin), and I am an American living in Shanghai, China. I currently have just one T at the moment, a 5-6" female G. Rosea. Here are some pics of her.

She likes to climb!

A little after her molt.

Hope to learn more as I have had her for a year and look to get more.

What's the substrate? One of the reasons for terrestrial Ts climbing like this is inadequate substrate.

The substrate is a mix of potting soil and regular dirt that is compacted, but she has a deep hide that she has renovated herself. I put about 7" of the substrate in and made a hide that went down and left about 2" of substrate underneath, but she tunneled all the way down to the bottom of the container and made it bigger. Pic here of her handy work. She also only climbs when I have the lid open, maybe she is curious?

I think I found out why. Its too damp for her in her enclosure. Something is causing it to moisturize all over the enclosure and then it is dripping down onto the soil and wetting it. How would I stop something like this from happening? I believe she has proper ventilation but I could make more.

Thanks,
tJay

That's an absolutely stunning G.Rosea. Don't worry about the substrate it's fine. That's probably closer to what they experience in the wild than the Eco earth, potting soil etc that most of us use.

If moisture is condensing inside, then it is too moist and you don't have good ventilation. You can always add more and let it dry out in its own; no need to rehouse her or anything.
The sub looks fine.

Nice rosie:)

Great set up! Yes, add more ventilation. Roseas do appreciate a good burrow. The ones they are found in in their wild state are multi-chambered abodes.

Beautiful animal!

Thanks guys for the compliments, I am proud of her and want to take real good care of her. The moisture level has just come out of nowhere and it may be the changing of the weather here in China. The substrate is so damp to include inside of her hide that I can see she doesnt even want to go inside of it and she is really uncomfortable at the moment. I am working my butt off trying to make about 100 holes along the side of her enclosure and on the top to provide her with maximum ventilation. Thanks again for the help!

Hi all,

Recently picked up (more like rescued) a G rosea. Beautiful spider. Not mature yet but I am thinking female .. anyone agree?

Also, she has more substrate now, these pics were taken before her permanent home was set up.

It looks female. How big is it roughly?

Not sure exactly. I haven't been able to accurately measure her yet. Here is a pic of her near my hand. Sorry for poor image quality, I am in desperate need of a new camera. IMG_20131224_232031.jpg
