I just got one, I have fallen in love with her.

She's a very laid back spider, allows me to hold her with no fuss. She kind of picked me out at the pet store, I got her on my hand and then she just wandered up my arm and refused to leave. There was no way she was staying behind. Just a great species, IMO. If you stop to look at them they have such interesting purple hair on the thorax and such lovely velvety uriticating hairs (not that they feel velvety..ouch.) ..I can't get enough of her.

I keep getting kind of weird comments because they're such common spiders but they're great and I'm glad to see others who like them too.

Nothing weird about it, a common species is not a "lesser" species. Don't pay attention to those remarks.
Yes, I can also appreciate the beauty of the spider, I have seen pink ones, ones with purple glows, fire red all sorts of them. They make stunning display pets!!

Take care now!

Mine is that way too. She's really laid back and always willing to climb out on me and sit like a pretty lady so I can show her off. She really doesn't seem to mind being held. If she did I wouldn't but she's cool with it.

Joey, I just wish the hobby would be less weird about the more common species and the newer people who keep them. I've done true spiders for years, I'm not that new, and I just like the rose as a species, always have. So I got one. Doesn't make me a moron or something.

I could probably handle a really nasty species, I have dealt with widows for ages. I just chose a species who was more pleasant natured because I wanted to be able to interact some with her. I almost got a more "exciting" species and I still might, but I was not leaving Val behind.

In the end I believe it all comes down to what you believe is right for you.
People being condescending to or over an animal is in my opinion, not moral superiority, but a lack of understanding the value of something.

Luckily! A lot of people still are open for the newbies and its not all bad eggs right?
I have had many different species of tarantula and every one of them I keep with mein my heart.

I'd love to see more Rosie pictures!!!

Most recent picture of 'Orlith'

Trying to drag her ping pong ball up the side of her tank

Up the chelicerae shot

Sorry for photo overload... Can you tell she is one of my favorites?

(+1 on clipping the prairie dog's nails. It needs somewhere to dig. :) )

Lol, I will tell my brother about the prairie dog needing a clip and it's okay about the pic overload, that's what I want to see! :) And I see so many people putting ping pong balls in there G. Rosea tanks, what does it do? What is the point of it?

They do that! They play with them. I've seen and heard of other species doing it too. The one in my G. pulchripes enclosure moves around a lot. A friend told me that her Brachys do it too.

I don't know that they 'play' with them, but some spiders will move them around. G. rosea, one of my B. boehmei, LP all interact with theirs. I pulled the balls from the spiders who ignored them. I haven't tried them with arboreal or fossorial, yet.

Is that what you keep your prairie dog in? I'm sorry but I have to step in and say that's one of the worst enclosures I've ever seen for one.
