LOL..I hear ya man..This has got to be the slowest growing genus around..But the wait is worth it as they are usually quite beautiful spiders as they mature and live for a long long time :)

Its been warm enough for the tarantulas in Arizona to have their burrows open in the uplands and montane regions.

This little guy was in really rough shape, dehydrated, lethargic, beat up.

True to their nature, I found one not too far from the first one. Thankfully they are usually in aggregations. Where you find one, youll usually find others very nearby.

This one was quite a lot of meticulous work to get out. It was in much better shape than the first one.

All this was within 1 hour alone. I wanted to find some mature ones, but the light was beggining to wane and I didnt want to be in the desert by myself. The collecting for those of you who come to the ATS this year will be very good indeed.

Aphonopelma coloradanum (hentzi)

This is a 4" spider I raised from a sling born in captivity August 2003 from a wild collected egg sac found in the hills NW of Canon City, Colorado. So we're looking at a sac that was found at around 7000 ft + in altitude.

This was supposedly something called an A.coloradanum which I suspect is nothing but a colorful A.hentzi whose cephalothorax is a bit more shiny gold than 'normal' for a A.hentzi. Does anyone else in the Denver area still have any of the slings from that spider party long ago? This is one of three I have left. They were very easy to raise, are extremely low maintenance and, as you can see, quite colorful.

Do you have pictures of it before it burrowed in? One of the most beautiful American species.

Cool

Cool now you have a Texan spider lol , i know that spider by A. Texensis , that is the new name i think. At least a while ago they were talking of changint it to that . They need to stop the name changing. I used to play with them and a. anax as a kid. they used to be very numerous where i grew up. HArder to find now.
they are very docil, i never had one even flick hair or anything. prob the most gentle spider there is
unless you are a grasshopper lol
when you tire of it send it back home to me lol
