Waterdish placement for arboreals?

Just a short question. I have seen people place the water dish on the substrate and I have seen arboreal enclosures where people glued the water dish to the side of the enclosure. Which one is better? Or do both work?

Personal preference. My arboreals come down to bottom to drink. Only challenge is when they web a ton and refilling the dish becomes difficult. Then spraying a few drops on the web will suffice.

I have a few dishes I’ve attached a larger dish to side up higher to put smaller dish in on the ones that web a ton like D. Diamantinensis.

That's not even a question, IMO :)

The water dish has to be placed on the substrate. Just an example: think about 'Avics'... they love to web above, no? So how you will easily refill and, eventually, took out for cleaning a water dish placed that way, without bothering the spider and his/her comfy-home?

There's no rule. I keep mine all on the bottom. Why I don't put up top--- Might end using the container for a terrestrial species at some point..don't need to fight with glue etc.

But this will change when I give one of AF Avics a new home..will put one up top too

Drill a hole in the lid directly on top of the bowl, simply pour water in it hits the bowl glued to the side and even overflowing it will work.

Now, they are glued in so you can remove them that easy to clean or change them out but mine dont get that dirty to when purging with water wont clean it enough.

You can easily change them without glueing them by glueing a larger cap or dish on the side then placing a smaller one inside that’s easily removable. In pic the blue around the clear cap is the one glued to side. The smaller clear cap is easily removed if needed. This is best pic I have currently of this way to use water dishes...at work.

I say it's a matter of personal preference and a matter of whether your tarantula will come down to drink water. My P. cambridgei has no problems coming down to drink water, but my A. avicularia refuses to come down for water. Needless to say, I have an elevated water dish for the Avic and a normal, on-the-ground water dish for the P. cambridgei. You just have to keep track of how the individual does imo.

Personal preference, I put all of mine on the ground, even my Avicularinae will happily come down to drink.

I have some on the substrate, and some glued up higher, and a few,ive done both.
The animals don't seem to have preference.

I think,if they are thirsty,they will find the H2O.

Thank you all, I think I will put the waterdish on the ground and watch if the T drinks or not.

I do both, because they always web high up and moult up there. It prevents me from having to try to get water into their web and disturbing them after moulting.

I use an elevated water dish for my mature female Avicularia avicularia. (My two Avic slings have water dishes on the ground they don't use, so I just drip water onto their webbing to water them.) My Psalmopoeus have water dishes on the ground.

Sometimes Avics seem to forget where their water dishes are. Just an anecdote: my first tarantula was an elderly female Avicularia avicularia. When she began to reject food, I assumed that she was in pre-molt again, but 11 months in, I began to wonder if she was dying of old age, because she was skinny, lethargic, and looked clumsier than normal when she moved. I didn't expect her to molt successfully.

Then I realized that she was no longer going down to her water dish and wondered if she might just be dehydrated. So I reached in and held the water dish up to her level, and she drank for a good five minutes until I could no longer hold that awkward position. So then I mounted a high-level water dish for her, thinking it might be easier for her to find and use, and she took a long drink from that as well. A week later, she finally molted.

I have o e on the bottom and they alway come down and drink ! Now if you notice the webbings get a bit crazy then I would glue gun a dish to the side a bit higher both of my OBT Tarantulas are houses semi arboreal and I have their water dishes glued to the sides as the web so much so use your discretion!
