You sure it was the mother that did it? The sac I had a while back did that themselves in their coffee filter. They had been removed from the egg sac around 20 days, and when they molted they made their own web sac casing of sorts and stayed bunched together under the webbing till they got close to molting again then they dispersed some but not a lot and molted. I have seen this behavior in several other species as well.Here's a female T. gigas with freshly emerged 1st instars. The original eggsac is discarded, then the female webs the 1st instars into a secondary type of eggsac. This is common with this genus.
