Nice spiders! Really like the sp. "amazonica".
I like them, too. They have an overall nice coloration, get pretty large (for an Avic), but in my experience their temper isn't the nicest (though others apparently made the opposite experience mostly) - god knows why. I probably have a couple oddballs maybe? ;)

p.s. Avicularia sp. "Columbia" - CHECK!
What's that supposed to mean? Got some ? ;)

"Aurora", A. minatrix female molted today and "Azure", A. purpurea male a week ago

"Firali", Psalmopoeus irminia female, ~5" - this little brat is the mean girl of the couple I have, for once she wasn't going into threatening me right away ;)

Beautiful irminia!
Considering I started with the other female I have when she was already a juvie 3.5" girl, raising this one from 2nd instar was a breeze! They're just lovely - if you respect them and act accordingly that is. Wouldn't stick my finger in this girls enclosure :D.

"Nyx", Grammostola pulchripes, 6" female - while doing cage maintenance she wanted to take a walk ;)
P1030717.JPG

Unnamed, Avicularia geroldi, ~1.5" unsexed - freshly molted today morning :D
P1030724.JPG

Unnamed, Avicularia geroldi, ~1.5" unsexed - closer look (it's really hot in my T room currently - they're VERY active hence :D)
P1030723.JPG

Going to the the hospital upcoming monday for approx. 2 days. Will have to take care of my collection before and hopefully when I'm back I find some certain T's have finally molted (E. murinus - still waiting on her for example :D)

Good luck Jan! Hope nothing serious!
Thanks, we shall see.

Now, before I leave quickly a few updates:

a) 2 of the 4 E. sp. "red" actually molted last night
b) "Asteria", my Ephebopus murinus molted last night, too
c) "Moriko" showed up last night (couldn't sleep - too warm) - and she sure as hell molted as I suspected!

"Moriko", Psalmopoeus cambridgei, size before molt was 6.5" - I'm suspecting this girl to be around the 7" mark now
P1030727.JPG

"Moriko", Psalmopoeus cambridgei, size before molt was 6.5" - threw a couple roaches in shortly ago so she can feed at least while I'm gone

Moriko is gorgeous as always, and I really love the A. geroldi! :)
That she is, Michael! She also seems to have calmed down in terms of defensiveness: She much rather freaks out and runs all over the place until she "finds" her hideout than instantly going to bite. :D Tbh: The "stand my ground" was easier to deal with than having to pay attention she doesn't run out and vanish somewhere in the room, lol :D

I hope every thing is okay! And I am so jelly of your Avicularia geroldi!
I'm waiting for certain results, we shall see. As for the A. geroldi - the 2nd of the 3 I have molted yesterday, hehe.

"Medeia", Acanthoscurria geniculata, ~6" female - sorry for the bad pic (glare of flash in reflection..bleh), but she was pretty active digging some so I thought I'd take a pic ;)
P1030732.JPG

Unnamed, Avicularia geroldi sling, ~1.5" unsexed - this little got spooked when I took out the old molt, he ran out and straight onto me. He decided to run and jump all over the place until finally he stopped landing on the catchcup, lol :D
P1030733.JPG

Unnamed, Avicularia geroldi sling, ~1.5" unsexed - so much for "hell on legs" due to the high temps here in my app, they're all extremely active and go at full speed when disturbed hehe :D Took me 10 min to get him back in...*sigh*
P1030734.JPG

Unnamed, Hapalopus sp. "Colombia large" sling, ~0.5" - this little one molted again already (twice in 4 weeks...wow) and looks already stunningly beautiful! Very cute little fella...
P1030736.JPG

Unnamed, Avicularia diversipes, ~2.25" suspect male - still searching for a name for this one, he's in premolt still and got quite defensive. This pic was taken with pure daylight, no flash so the colors look way darker
P1030737.JPG

Hope you enjoyed.

A. amazonica male molted again (not mature yet)

"Keeva", Avicularia amazonica male, ~4" after the last molt now - he's quite defensive, received a threat-posture after I took out the old molt the next day...o_O
P1030738.JPG

Something totally different: "Chocolate Roaches" (scientific name: Shelfordella lateralis) as we call them over here - hungry much? ;)
P1030741.JPG

"Moriko", Psalmopoeus cambridgei, adult female ~7" - apparently while hunting roaches she realized they sooner or later come to take a drink...here she's waiting for them :D

Yeah, B. boehmei are looking really nice freshly molted. Very vivid coloration. Pity my male often thinks he's an OBT...:D

Yeah, well...she hates me. ;)

"Sylva", Avicularia versicolor, 4"+ mature male - bulbous pedipals visible ;)
P1030752.JPG

"Sylva", Avicularia versicolor, 4"+ mature male - very much "all legs"
P1030755.JPG

"Sylva", Avicularia versicolor, 4"+ mature male - very reddish with greenish legs now
P1030759.JPG

"Moriko", Psalmopoeus cambridgei, ~7" female - out and hunting ;)
P1030756.JPG

"Timea", Avicularia avicularia, 4" female - picture for the category of "hanging out" - lol :D

...and another dud sac...

"Saranyu", Tapinauchineus violaceus, ~4" female - this is the 2nd dud-sac, she layed this one last night...
P1030767.JPG

"Saranyu", Tapinauchineus violaceus, ~4" female - guess it's really time for me to get her a boy ;)
P1030769.JPG

"Medeia", Acanthoscurria geniculata, ~6" female - guess she's not in premolt after all: Nomming on a superworm ;)
P1030763.JPG

"Medeia", Acanthoscurria geniculata, ~6" female - she looks stunning, the velvety black of her abdomen hairs are reflecting the light depending on the angle you look at her
P1030764.JPG

"Medeia", Acanthoscurria geniculata, ~6" female - still is my beast, though :D

Bad news and some funny news...and pics of my C. fimbriatus

That first shot of your versicolor is brilliant Jan! :D
Glad you like it, because it's the last pics I was able to take of him - he's dead :(

MM A. versicolor "Sylva" - dunno what caused it, I woke up last night to find him in a deathcurl next to his waterdish (which was 1/2 full at the time). He didn't show any signs of damage to him, but I'm blaming myself on this one: When I discovered he molted, I thought I saw a drop of blood on his pedipalp, but thought nothing of it that moment, assuming it was residue from the molt. Apparently - it was worse :(. Considering him and the female are the 1st Avics I got as slings and raised to adulthood, this seriously sucks!

MM A. versicolor "Sylva" dead

"Saranyu", MF Tapinauchineus violaceus - she dropped another dud-sac for me :cute:. I raised her from a 2nd instar and she seems to really want to breed...guess I need to get a male whenever I get a chance :D

One of the couple A. diversipes molted fine yesterday

And some pictures as usual...

"Kyla", Avicularia amazonica, ~3.5" female - I rehoused this girl after cleaning out and setting up the enclosure of my A. versicolor MM again...
P1030775.JPG

"Hera", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~3.25" female - or in other words: 3.25" of fury and fire! She sure has a really bad temper...
P1030776.JPG

"Hera", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~3.25" female - her coloration is really great, though!
P1030777.JPG

"Hera", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~3.25" female - despite the temper I'll rehouse her after the next molt into a bigger enclosure, possible even before that already

Really so sorry to hear that Jan. :( Don't be too hard on yourself, I doubt that molting injuries are often so serious ... I probably wouldn't have acted on it either. Most people would never even have noticed, give yourself credit for being so observant.

...and a few more pics

That might be, Michael. Nevertheless I feel bad about it, especially because I'm not sure if I could've saved him, or not. But I keep thinking "Damn, when I took those pics, I should've talken him out carefully and checked spot-on!" - makes me really sad since I raised that boy from a baby... *sniff*

"Jewel", Homoeomma sp. "blue", ~4" female - first, she slapped the tongs holding the worm, secondly she nearly bit herself before grabbing the worm when I dropped it...
P1030781.JPG

"Jewel", Homoeomma sp. "blue", ~4" female - skittish, semi-defensive and mostly unpredictable, that's my female...yep!
P1030782.JPG

"Gemma", Euathlus pulcherrimaklaasi, 4,5" female - still one of my calmest T's...
P1030784.JPG

"Gemma", Euathlus pulcherrimaklaasi, 4,5" female - I think she's entered very early stages of premolt as she can't really climb anymore on her own...
P1030790.JPG

"Flavio", Psalmopoeus pulcher, ~4.5"-5" mature male - Wasn't able to send him off for breeding and I don't think I will anymore. He's not looking too good, refuses food...I think he's starting to die soon :(

Yep;) look like purpurea slings.

I have not experienced a threat display from any of my A. sp. amazonica. They are quick to do the classic Avic butt rub, though.

Sweet! Pictures please? ;)

Had another death, the female A. diversipes that molted, died the next day as well. In that case I'm suspecting molting problems, too. She was totally healthy, no mites, behaved normally. Really annoyed about it, for some reason I seem to have bad luck with this particular species......the male however molted, too and is doing well. Whatever it is, I'm assuming I just have bad luck *sigh. Also, "Azure", one of the couple A. purpureas that I got first molted again and is now a mature male, too. All well with him, too - no problems. Hence why I check the above under "bad luck". I'm sure what I'm doing, how to raise and keep them, but sometimes you simply can't do anything about it...it's annoying and sad, but not necessarily the keepers fault (coming from someone who jumped straight into Avics 2 month in the hobby - now 2 years nearly with them). Oh, sidenote: "Nila" my mystery azuraklaasi/braunshauseni is in premolt again - once she molts I think I can finally determine for sure which of both she is (currently very much tendency to say "braunshauseni" after doing 2 weeks of research on the subject).

Anyways, I decided to finally rehouse my little devils, the couple Chilobrachys fimbriatus "Ares" (male) & "Hera" (female) and while I was expecting these to not go easy, I simply used the catchup with straw method again. Suffice to say: Ares bit the straw 3x before finally realizing I wouldn't stop prodding him into the catchcup, while Hera only threatened and slapped a couple times. Even getting them into their new enclosure was not eventful - no bolting at all, no threatening, simply walking in there. Once I put on their lids however, they ran around there for a few second and boy are they fast! Insane! I'm seriously glad they decided to freak out after I was done :D Right now, they're already webbing and digging and the female is actually eating. I know the male is in premolt, so I simply let him be and watch. It's certainly one of the most interesting species observing-wise.

"Azure", Avicularia purpurea, mature male ~4.25" - he's now very skittish, after being extremely calm up until now - interesting ;)
P1030796.JPG

"Ares", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~3.5" male - more scared than daring during transfer ;)
P1030803.JPG

"Hera", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~4" female - she was daring, but didn't put up a fight really, just some slapping and that was that ;)
P1030806.JPG

"Ares", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~3.5" male - ...and being totally p'ed off when I gently prodded him down towards the ground as he was hanging upside down...:D
P1030810.JPG

"Ares", Chilobrachys fimbriatus, ~3.5" male - seriously, the male is worse than the female so far  "fire and fury" - totally fits! :p
