I started out with Captain Hotdog, but now it takes me a while to think up names with titles that aren't already taken. I like giving them gender neutral names, so when I find out their sex it doesn't feel weird, although I have a suspect-male OBT named Sally. You have one of those random word magnet sets on your fridge, don't you?
Yep! Dampé was the gravedigger. I thought it was a cool name, especially for a fossorial species that loves to burrow!I like jumanji that really suits a spider and i like dampe too im pretty sure dampe was the name of the guy in a graveyard on zelda OOT
Don’t get hermit crabs please. They are harvested from their huge social groups in the wild. It’s horrible and cruel.Yes you can, at least here in the US, But knowing what I know now, I don't recommend it. This was MANY years ago and the care instructions were sadly lacking. They are high maintenance and require a set up that provides land, salt water and fresh water. I am sure it can be done but do your research! I do have a palludarium with some fiddler crabs. It is a new set up but they seem do be doing well.

Na she comes up with weird namesTalk to your gf
Edible smile@CommanderBacon
I just tried your word magnet method and came up with "Edible Smile" I find that weirdly appropriate for a t.
My husband also just suggested 'Arachnaccioli" as a name.
Voldermort is a good idea and thank you for teaching me some polishMy spiders have random gender assigned at unpacking as Polish - my first language has gendered nouns. Fang is Kieł in Polish and it's male.
My first T, T. albo was supposed to be an adult female who was named Merida the Spidy, because of curly hair. When "she" molted into MM, "she" was renamed Gryffindor.
My juvie female B. hamorii is named Jadowitusia, which is a play on words. It sounds like a name diminutive, Witusia is very uncommon, but a valid name in Polish, "jad" means venom.
Slings got assigned random genders as there are not many gender-neutral names in Polish. The names are Oliwka (Olive - f), Tygrysek (diminutive from Tiger - m, my children wanted to name "him" Slytherin), Voldemorta (we couldn't find a suitable name, but we decided it's a she, so she became "she who must not be named"), Struś (Ostrich - m), Pan Serduszkowy (Mr. Hearty - m, it's a C. elegans, my 6-year-old got inspired by the heart on the abdomen and was insistent it's a boy), Trzewiopij (Bowels/intestines sucker - m, "he" threw a threat pose and tried to escape when unpacking).
Tounge tied or whatlol no but when I get one with a crazy long name, I practice saying it so if it comes up in conversation at a show, I don't sound like an idiot. Unfortunately, the flipside of that is that it just makes me sound like a huge nerd.
"Do you have any other Neischnocolus species?"
"I picked up a Neoholothele fasciaaurinigra and am now looking for a male."
"I saw my Sahydroaraneus raja the other day!"*
*this is a lie
It's Voldemorta with an "a" at the end. It makes it sound feminine in Polish.Voldermort is a good idea and thank you for teaching me some polish
I'm still in the "new worlds with names I can pronounce" phase, but I still always get nervous and botch them when talking to people who know their stuff. Luckily most other people are clueless.lol no but when I get one with a crazy long name, I practice saying it so if it comes up in conversation at a show, I don't sound like an idiot. Oh you're fine. No one will fault you for pronouncing things "wrong" and if they do, they're a jerk. If you feel unsure, just write it down and say "I can't pronounce this but I want it".I'm still in the "new worlds with names I can pronounce" phase, but I still always get nervous and botch them when talking to people who know their stuff. Now I want to get female A. geniculata, I saw people often name them Genie/Ginny as it somewhat resembles their scientific name. I like the idea, I tried to come up with something similar and now I'm thinking Dżdżownica is a good name. Dżdżownica means earthworm, dż is pronounced similarly to "g" in Ginny.
Good idea. I can spell a lot more of them than I can pronounce, and even a lot of the ones I think I can pronounce I end up finding out I've been saying it wrong the whole time. Videos are helpful for that.Oh you're fine. No one will fault you for pronouncing things "wrong" and if they do, they're a jerk.
