Argh! I'll be bringing myself and my two girls IF the one child is well enough I suppose!

Every single meeting, some commitment has been in the way. This was the first meeting with no such problem. And what happens Thursday? Vivian gets sick enough at school (tired, glassy-eyed) for them to call me to pick her up. Today, Friday, her healthy look lasted maybe an hour? She has coughed all day. I don't know if it's a bad cold or a mild flu.

What a torture test! :wall: :(

hey

I hope you can make it but you know the kids come before tarantulas as unfair as it is. My wife will be having one of those "kids" in July. I can not wait :)

Vivian is too sick this morning. She's sicker instead of better. And she did make some comments about feeling like throwing up yesterday. :(

It's a no-go for me, since the one sitter for sick kids, my husband, is at this moment packing for a flight/business trip.

I shared some of my spiders info with Fred, which I hope he will pick up and pass on to all of you. I will just have to try for next time. Shoot! Shoot! Darn!

PS Ken, Congratulations! Despite the sick times, children are wonderful! They actually provide excuses to get more tarantulas!

I'll go find them. Hang on.

OK, you got the PM, I hope.

(Oh, yeah. This could be fun. Watch everyone else go. Spend some long-needed quality time on AB, instead of just popping in and out...)

I finally made it to one... I just made up my mind to dodge all other commitments that try to creep up on my "bug time" and was successful, today :p

I felt a little uncomfortable and got quite a few "not so nice" looks, so maybe I won't make another one.... but I enjoyed it for the most part!

Thanks, John.. for bringing my lovely tee shirt! Thanks, David... for the Latros and B. lateralis... yey!! Thanks to whoever provided the freebies for the drawing... I picked something I didn't already have. And BIG THANKS to Ken and Georgi for opening your home :D

I think everyone enjoyed meeting you. I hope you come to another one. If you thought I was giving you wierd looks, I apologize. I just got contacts and I was doing a lot of squinting and trying to focus on things up close. Still trying to get used to these things stuck to my eyeballs. :p
I had a lot of fun today. It was nice to meet so many new people! I'm very happy with my new bugs and cages. {D
Can't wait for the next meeting.

p.s. please send me your photos of the meeting and I'll put them in our gallery when it's set up: xenobug@gmail.com

Thanks!

Yup, 'twas another great meeting. Better than the last one. And I promise to try and bring something homemade for the potluck next time, I didn't have time this go 'round. :p

I love my little chaco I got in the raffle, he's been bulldozing his vial. He's so freaking cute. :D

Oh hey some of you guys were talking about The Container Store for those acrylic boxes, I assume y'all mean this one, but what section is the boxes in? I can't find them. :p

(And I hope I wasn't one you felt was giving you the stinkeye Aminah...next time if someone does that tell me and I'll beat 'em up for you. ;) )

Oh and just one more thing, my brother is NOT usually a very social person, like I can tell when he's just trying to act friendly but is actually uncomfortable, but he really had a great time down there. Its probably mostly because its an animal-appreciation group, and he really loves animals and being around them, and I guess being around other people who love them too.

SF Bay Area Tarantula Society meeting January 19th

The meeting we had on the 19th Was really fun.It just keeps on getting better and better, not to mention larger. We had over 35 people attend this time, from all walks of life. The group is a good mixture of age ,gender and social backgrounds. We had some new to Tarantulas and some veterans that have been in the hobby for over 15 years.
The meeting went from 11 a.m. to well past 2:30 p.m. There was a FREE drawing with lots of goodies to be had. Actually, we all got to pick 2 to 3 times each. There was centipedes, tarantulas, huntsman spiders,r oaches and alot of terrarium decor to select from.
I did a handling demo with a male T.blondi, haitian brown and arather large female T.Blondi.She was really imressive to hold, just the shear weight was awesome to feel. Mike tookover and did a ventral sexing demo, which was really helpful to all of us. We had a science show put on for us wherw we got to see how liquid hydrogen in a ballon looks like when it is lit on fire. The purpose of that was to show what the Hindenberg looked like when it exploded. The next demo was liquid nitrogen and the effects on how cold it is when you put something in it. Temperature -325 degrees. The grapes were rock hard and stayed that way for a few minutes. I kept wondering why Ken stood there with that frozen look on his face and he kind of reminded me of a statue. John should not have poured the nitrogen over him. I'm sure Ken thawed out some time after we left.
There was tons of food , laughter, trading and buying of inverts. We are planning our next meeting for April, which will be fun . I hope to see more new faces.

For those who took pictures please post a few here.

See you all then.
