ornatas "unsexed"

I just got 4 ornatas that were supposed to be 1" and unsexed. What I got are all about 3-4" long diagonally from Front leg to rear leg. I was kind of excited at first that they were all so big but then the skepticism kicked in. I am not sure but from the pics I've been looking at I think I got all males... Here are pics of all 4. What do you guys think? If these indeed are all male I am going to be VERY upset and will be posting some very negative feedback. But before that happens I need feedback. If these all do appear to be male could this have happened by chance? The guy that sold them to me supposedly knows quite a bit about tarantulas. I know enough to know this about tarantulas and I don't consider myself that knowledgeable...

Not necessarily all male. My ornata, last moult and now, is showing a greeny "male" colour all over, except for a tinge of purple on her abdomen. However... she has been sexed as female by an experience spider keeper... so...i'd wait a few more moults and see...

Wow that pic of the female ornata gives me big hope that I still have a good chance of getting at least 1 female out of the 4 I have. Thanks for posting that pic Becky.

don't worry too much - ornatas can take their sweet time to get adult coloration. all juvies are a muddy, greenish color and it is more difficult to distinguish males from females than with, let's say regalis. one indicator for a female are a very clear markings on the abdomen. males got slightly more blurred lines there. also, wait for a molt and see if the central marking on the abdomen pales. this line gets ever lighter on females but remains very dark on the males.

I recently got rid of all my Pokie slings as I think their reputation got to me a little. Then I went to the BTS show in the Uk last weekend and came home with this litle girl

She an adult female P. regalis and an absolute stunner.

What a gorgeous spider Doezsha! I really need to get me one. Were you not able to sex it with the molt?

it molted in its burrow and by time I got to it, the abdomen portion of the molt was no more :(

Gorgeus Tigrina!

The ornata looks male to me :) The coloration is rather typical for a male.

Could you explain how you were able to make a guess at the sex of my 4 ornatas? They all look the same to me. I have read t his thread so I would appreciate a quote or just a description... I want to be able to see what you are seeing. How confident are you in your predictions? Thanks,

If I may, the assumption was made based on the post on the first page of this thread re: sexing by the folio's of pokies--May it be known-- there are serious limitations but this method can often work reliably as well to the trained eye or a breeder with a population for comparison. They may yet be too small to tell though. Good Luck!

I realize that but after reading the same thing I couldn't seem to see any difference so I wanted to know exactly what was being looked at in each picture. I don't have a huge population of them to look at together and have not been breeding them for years so I definitely don't have the correct ammount of experience to do this right. But, I want to learn so that is why I asked. After reading the begining of this thread I still was clueless as to how one could look at the 4 pictures of ornatas I posted and see a difference between them.
