A beautiful and extremely rare beast.

Poecilotheria smithi; ultimate male. He molted 5 days ago and before long will have himself a couple of dates here and eventually a date on Staten Island, I hope. Wish us luck.

Ain't that the truth... When I was doing the photo shoot I had my assistant Keith on standby with cups and nets in case he bolted from the diorama. Well, he did at one point while I had my eye through the lens and a paint brush to guide him in the other hand and he ran right up Keith's arm to his neck. Keith spooked a bit and the spider had a short fall, but is unharmed. Sure did strain the old ticker though.
