I am pretty sure it is a regalis, as it has the band on the under side of it's abdomen.

Here it is in 2 different earlier stages of size.

what dark dorsal stripe?? from what i can see that dark stripe is just about gone, which would indicate female. but an examined molt would tell the sex much more accuratley.
Well, the stripe does appear to be lighter, compared to his earlier photos. I will admit that I am new to Pokies, so I am still learning. Anyway, some of the pictures that Martin has posted show virtually no dorsal stripe at all on the females. Lyle's T still has, at least in my opinion, a fairly dark stripe. BTW, I am not trying to debate the issue, I am trying to learn more about it.

If this is a female, at what point does the dorsal stripe fade? Since this is a 5" T, it is fairly sizeable. Shouldn't the stripe be gone by now?

yeah definitly no debate ive only been keeping pokies a for about 4 months myself i am by far an expert..

that is an excellent question i wish someone here could answer that for us.
but right now im gonna have to say that every pokie is different and its hard to determine. maybe some only fully loose there darker stripe when they reach full sexual maturity? maybe some lose it as sub adults??...IMO its really hard to say but hopefully someone with a lot more exp with pokies will be able to give us a better answer. But in the end its probably gonna be wait for a molt.

Lyle's Pokie

From the earlier pics I would've said almost certainly male...and that was my first thought with the new picture as well.

But I'm going to hold off on any guesses now. I'd like to hear what others that have had more than a handful of Regalis from slings to maturity, have to say about the stripe fading.

A very cool T no matter what gender.

Yes the stripe does seem to be getting lighter... But you are right, most of the female regalis' that I have seen, are extremely vibrant & white in color.

And since mine just molted recently, and is still very dull, I wonder if maybe it is indeed male??

Your rufie looks male to me. Has the "male colors."

I have a P.fasciata, that matured into a male at about that size. 5" I believe you said? That's how big my fasciata is...(although he appears much thinner than your regalis), and I'm pretty sure that you'd be able to tell if it was a mature male at that size (or perhaps soon...because of the recent molt???), so it's a unique case to me. None of my females have never had any striping to my knowledge. I am very interested to know what it turns out to be. That would be cool if it turns out to be female.

If you refer to the dark band in the folio you cant really tell at this stage, because rufilata is very dark and the folio line canges very late...

I wish mine would grow faster!

Patience {D I have found them to be somewhat slow growers compared to the rest of the Genus.
