Mature male P antonious

Molted MArch 20 09

Here is the old exuvia

Here is the male with a new suit.

Here he is now

Is it possible for a male to change coloration so drasticly in a few months?

I know this is a mature male and they don't live too long, so is this a sign of old age?

He has been breed several times (2-3) With 2 diferent females.

thanks in advance.

Hi Francisco!

Well, here's what I think. There are several different variants (or even maybe different species) of these black Pamphobeteus around, including the chicken spider from Madre de Dios South-east Peru, the chicken spider I've found in North-east Peru, the two forms of hobby P. antinous, etc. Now the thing is that when the dealers import them, they get mixed up and no one keeps track of their orgininal location. So maybe you have there different variants of female and male? You never know what you get with Pamphos, unless you collect them yourself or breed slings from the same sacs (from WC female) or with their mom...
Anyway, you have very good looking spiders there. I would try a small communal if your breeding goes well

Best regards,
Pato

2nd instar Pamphobeteus sp. ''chicken spider'' samiria river. The biggest slings I've seen, some with legspan over 3cm.
