Do you actually keep dubia? In a short time you have inches of frass...let it go and it adds up quick....regardless of where theyre from, theyre still eating and pooping machines.:vomit::D
Yes of course, did you think I was making it up as I went along, mines don't smell I keep their home "clean". Regularly cleaning (weekly) makes a huge difference.

Ok so I was going to come home and put a little substrate in the rock and sorta cover half the entrance to make it smaller, since seeing the post about it being too big, but when I came home sure enough he's in it digging around!

So leave well enough alone at this point right?

He also decided some sub needed to be in his water dish.

As for the wife and roaches.. she got a skin allergy test done and results said cockroaches and dust. But she agreed me dealing with them shouldn't be a problem so, will try!

Not nearly as strong...but I am not fond of the smell of roaches. I'm always amazed at all the people that say they don't smell...I chalk it up to they must be cig smokers...as that kills the sense of smell.
I don't find the roach smell pleasant, but it's definitely not as bad as cricket stench. If I had a container with the same number of crickets (as the dubia container), it would reek.

Putting a layer of vermiculite in the bottom seems to mitigate (but not entirely eliminate) the smell. I don't really smell the roaches unless I am right next to the container. (It must not be too bad, because my husband thinks everything stinks, and he has not complained about the roaches.)

So this AM he's in his rock, and there is a big clump of something half in his water. If I didn't know any better I'd think he was balling up food and putting it partially in the bowl to keep it moist.

Most of my T's have placed boluses (eaten food) in a certain area and keep placing it in the same place, I would remove the water dish, give it a clean, replace it, but in a different area, the spider will use the same place to put it's finished meals. Their really good at keeping their enclosures as clean as possible, with regard to boluses etc.

Well its a mass of webbing and substrate i think about golf ball size which I think is a lot like what he did to the crickets the first night we got him. Whereas Bonnie leaves just a small half-marble size clump of crusty cricket leftover heh.

Awesome that makes things easy. that's twice stuff has been deposited here so I will take your suggestion and move the water. Tell ya what this dude is active! He keeps going into his rock for a while then coming out and wandering around, then going back in for a while. What a dude! I dig it.

Ok swapped corners, he immediately came out to see what I did, then went back in. I was adjusting the rocks at the entrance to his burrow and he half-hardheartedly popped out and swatted at me - scared me to death lol.

I love how these guys all have little personalities. I mean these two I have are totally different. Totally. Bonnie is as docile as can be, she just chills. Clearly she's doing a little every night but I don't see any of it. This fella though is very active, does not back down, is not shy at all.

They don't become large like Theraphosa species, but still a decent size, and usually they have the personality to go with their bulk :D
Your enclosure looks lovely :)
Don't stick your hands in there if you like your fingers, the venom may be mild, but those fangs aren't! And the urticating hairs can be difficult as well, they are considered one of the more itchy and burning kind ;)

He's digging dirt out with his mouth! How cool. I got a video. It's a bit long, as he's camera shy, but check this out :D

These guys are forever doing this, little bulldozers, it's really cool the way they excavate and build burrows, hides, etc.

So. I had not seen this hilarious guy since he burrowed, outside of his burrow. You could see him on the glass at the bottom this whole time but that's about it. .

Yesterday I put about a half bottle of water over the water bowl, as to soak that side of the tank a little bit. He came out a few hours later and made his way to the water dish, for first time since moving into that enclosure, that I know of, and drank from it for a good while!

....and, that dude is nearing molt, and looks like he's going to get a fair bit a growth on him when he does! Well, he, she, who knows..

So you're back, how was your trip, uneventful hopefully in the best meaning?
All your spiders in one piece when you got home?
The B. hamorri never even gave you a surprise homecoming, the cheek of the wee beggar, after all your worrying, never mind it'll be great for you to see it molt.

He molted the day or day after we got back :) Now this guys is about to molt. :D

So between this, and leading my C. versicolor to the water dish by making it rain and leading with a water trail, I'm wondering if I need to do a much better/deeper substrate soaking when I do them. I have been overflowing dish every so often a little, now I wonder if that little, should be a lot.

You'll soon get the feel for the humidity, just by sight you can see how light/dark the substrate is, I would be careful with the C. versicolour, add some water to the corner of the enclosure, not too much and not too little, I know that sounds very cryptic, you end up just getting the right balance, so your B. smithi molted yes, and now your LP is about to molt, it's a busy time of year for molts my friend.:)

Current legspan of maybe six inches, I believe he's still considered a juvenile.
At that size it is a subadult, the 10" leg span that is regularly touted is exaggerated most are 7-8", you might get the odd one that's bigger.

They said to drop in 5 or 6 crickets and leave for the night and do it again the next night, so 10 or 12 a week.
At that size I fed my L. parahybana and L. difficilis 3 crickets every fortnight when I used crickets, they currently get one superworm or adult dubia every fortnight.

This dude is fiesty. Even moving him to the tank was special, as gentle as I was, he was not thrilled.
They're not the calmest, my L. parahybana is extremely skittish and kicks hairs for fun, my L. difficilis is more defensive and tends to throw up threat postures.

I'm very excited about this one! He's in a 10G for now.
A 10 gallon is more than big enough for a fully grown LP, I have an adult female A. geniculata in a 6.5 gallon tank and she has tons of space.

What size would be good D. Roaches for these 5" guys? I assume large or extra.
Extra large/adults.

Not nearly as strong...but I am not fond of the smell of roaches. I'm always amazed at all the people that say they don't smell...I chalk it up to they must be cig smokers...as that kills the sense of smell.
They've probably probably been used to the smell long enough to have forgotten about it, I smoke and I still noticed the smell from my red runners, it's not nearly as bad as the smell you get when you don't clean your cricket bins but it still hums.
