So I need help, my friend wants his first tarantula to be blue. All I can suggest is the Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens or also known as GBB.

Do you guys have any suggestions??

All suggestions are appreciated

I. mira are pretty easy to deal with, but they won't see much of it. I can't think of a truly blue, truly beginner one.

Why does it have to be blue?

This, or Pseudhapalopus sp. blue would be good options, IMO. The only drawbacks are price and availability can potentially be challenging, but if you can find them they'd be great!

- New world, so no potent venom;
- Stay on the smaller side (3-4" max);
- Not terribly defensive, just a little skittish;
- Reasonable growth rate, maybe on the slower side;
- Good eaters.

I've loved keeping this little one!

Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

Lasiocyano sazimai are good or mine is I got my girl as a freebie in my second ever t order n from the info I was bricking it but she's been a little treasure she digs a bit spends quite a bit of time in her burrow but has gone from 0.5cm to 4inches in 2.5 years she's never threat posed me and when she was small she would just bolt to her burrow, never had a problem with rehousing her and she's always had a great appetite too . They are also cheap and easy to find which is always a bonus. Pic took with just the overhead t lights no torch.

Or if you want something a little less known I suggest Bonnetina I have both tanzeri (juvenile unsexed) and minax (saf) and both sport blue thighs with copper carapace very very pretty again burrow good eaters although my tanzeri is a little bolty but I think that's due to needing a rehouse ( filled in the burrow after the last moult but i am gettinga coupleof feeds in before i rehouse just incase we take a while to settle)
Milly bonnetina minax no torch just the overhead lights.

When you put a torch on her that blue is even more intense.

Tilly Bonnetina tanzeri juvenile just starting to get the colours at about 2 inches took just under a year to get from 1cm to 2.1 inches dls but even at 2 inches you can see that blue despite being in a milky sling tub. I did use a torch for this pic.

🤞 you find the perfect match 😊

They are good for a keeper with patience and the know how to keeping them alive.

My P. sp blue stayed miniscule for years and is fossorial. Mine is approaching 4 years old next month on the 20th from instar 2. It is a little over 2 inches but a stunning grayish blue body with a sapphire blue abdomen. It's taken this long for it's true colors to emerge. It's last molt was 11/18/23. Patience is demanded with this species of Pseudhapalopus.

His a sucker for blue, he saw some pics of a P. Metallica and Chilobrachys sp. Electric blue
Yeah those 2 T's are not recommended for new keepers.

On the other hand the Philippines have native OW tarantulas. I don't know what NW T's are available to you there.

I had a few gbb they had Health issues rip :sad: , I wouldn’t hesitate to get them again someday when I have the money.
Color isn’t really a factor of me deciding what to get. My p Metallica got dks was very cool while I had it.

Yeah, told him to get experience first before getting those T's.

I don't know any native NW T's here so all I suggest him are Brachys, GBB and Avic. But Avic are expensive here so those are the option for him and the suggestions here.

The native OW T's here are cool tho especially the O. philippinus. Waiting for it to be delivered 😸😸

The mini-GBB is just like the GBB, slightly different hue, not much/ BUT it doesn’t have UrS! And that is great!

Philippines only have native old world T's. New world T's come from North, Central, South America, Caribbean Islands including Cuba, Dominican Republic and Trinidad. Might be missing some but that covers most if not all of NW's places of origin.

The three genus you listed as available are all good choices. Orphnaecus philippinus native to the Philippines is a stunning OW native there. If you cannot convince your friend to start with the NW T's that are available then look into that particular tarantula before diving into a P. metallica.

I honestly think the D. Diamentinensis is prettier than my GBB. Kinda quick, absolutely gorgeous spider that is fun to keep.

It is indeed a stunning T. None of us can read the OP's friend's mind. This person should make an account and ask questions. That would be the best way.

Thrixopelma longicolli is a good blue beginner friendly new world. They're pretty fast growing, and mine has been calm and visible.

Told him to start NW T's before diving into OW. He knows what the risks of getting OW T's without prior experience. He chose base on the T's looks. I told him before getting it do some research first.

You should tell him to make an account here and start researching.
