Go by 2 to 2.5 the times of the T's DLS, ( diagonal leg span). For arboreals you want taller height for the enclosure. Stick to that and if wire mesh lid/top like with Exo Terra it needs to be replaced.

Why it needs to be replaced because not only is it woven mesh that a tarantula can get it's leg/s stuck a sub-adult on up can rip it open and escape.

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get the thin acrylic sheet. Ask service desk up front where it's located if you can't find it. You also need aquarium safe glue, I use a glue gun.

I cut it with a utility knife it's simple. Cut to size to fit the lid/top

Now there's two ways to make air vents in it 1. Drill or 2. Soldering iron. I use a $10 soldering iron and I've done it inside. I recommend you do it outside or your parents might reign down on you due to the toxic smell of burning acrylic.

Once you have it finished rip the wire mesh out of the lid. Glue the acrylic in it's place voila you're done and it's easy to do.
If you get the exo terra nano or mini tall there’s tarantula cribs acrylic replacements that work

Yes but T Cribs are pretty pricey. If a person wants to go that route and they are fine with the prices then it's all good.

It's up to each person what they want to do. I prefer to buy the acrylic sheets as I'll have leftover for multiple enclosures if I need it.

Just the replacement lid isn’t bad.
Should be a lot less than an adult C.Versicolor lol, especially if it’s confirmed female.

So measured it and it’s 12x12x12, and I can buy a replacement on the website of zoo med for acrylic, where I’ll drill holes. Should I also drill holes on the side or is front and top fine?

If it’s glass you’re probably not drilling holes

I have a pretty big cork round (hollow), do they prefer smaller ones, or is it fine? 1745000614562.jpeg (something like this)

Also, I believe the enclosure is plastic, is it absolutely necessary to drill side ventilation or is front and top fine (will replace top with acrylic)
Thanks!

That's what I have in my P. irminia enclosure. It's great for arboreals. I mean terrestrials might utilize it but it's not ideal.

You want a smaller curved or flat piece of corkbark for a terrestrial to burrow down and under

I’m looking at getting a C versicolor, that’s why😁. Would you drill side holes if you had a zoo med/exo terra type aboreal enclosure? (Already has front and top)

Also, does anyone here know any good websites to get fake plants for arboreals?
Thanks everyone!

So, bought hanging plants along with one ground one. I have that cork round which I will saw in half, and maybe put both in the enclosure. I also have coco fiber, and a water dish. Only concern is the mesh top, and I can't find an acrylic replacement for the Zoo med top, only Exo Terra, would it work? Anyways, parentals want to give it a test run with the mesh top and if any problems arise, we replace it. I won't mist the enclosure, and as there is front and top ventilation with air conditioning vent nearby (not directly on top), I'm assuming there will not be any stagnant air. Sound good?

Another question- it's going to be around 2-2.5+ inches. How Long from there will it reach being a subadult/adult? Can I get it to grow faster by feeding it more (not more frequently, just more crickets)? I usually feed my ts 3 small crickets once a week, and I'm wondering if it will grow faster with that amount and frequency.
Thanks!

Just ordered it, coming next week, but I am still not 100% sure if my plan is fine. What do you guy's think?
Also, it will be 3 inches instead of 2

we have been having a lot of recent posts on feeding, fasting and growth.

its time to get enclosure ready and read up on feeding. You could always get the plants to be somewhat tied to the top. which would reduce exposure to mesh.

or cut out a plastic bin top to fit in the mesh part. Drilling holes should be simple enough. Then tie wrap it into place through the mesh if you dont have silicone or glue.

Good choice, especially finding a larger one! C. versicolor are pretty hardy, but can be a little fragile as slings, so finding a juvenile is awesome.

No need to drill additional holes, front and top vents is enough. You don't need to worry so much about airflow if you keep the enclosure dry - when people run into issues is when they have too much moisture in the enclosure. Just make sure there's always a full water dish and put a few drops of water on the webbing for it to drink about once a week, and you'll be good to go. Your plan for the enclosure setup sounds good, too!

My female went from a fingernail-sized sling to an adult female in less than 3 years, so they grow pretty quickly. You don't need to do anything to adjust the feeding schedule. I would offer 1 prey item that is about the same size as the abdomen every 7 days or so. It'll grow at a nice steady rate if you do that.

Post pics when you get it!!

Got it! I underestimated the water dish size unfortunately, but I will replace it with a smaller one around in my house. For this size then, I should moisten very slightly its webbing or near the top of the cork? I also hear people glueing the water dish to the top of the enclosure, but not sure. I just don't want it to die of stagnant moist air or not getting water either. Thanks!

With all of my arboreal species I provide an upper water dish and a lower one, the upper usually being smaller to be used for drinking, especially since Versicolor like to be up higher. The lower one is generally there for me to provide atmospheric humidity. Cross ventilation is your best friend with this species!

I'll think about it! I have an extra water dish lying around, maybe I'll glue it to the cork.
