Rules of Fight Club:

Rule #1 - Don't take this seriously, it is all in good fun. If it is not to your liking don't participate. If you are not sick or twisted aka male, you don't have to participate.

Rule #2 - These bouts are fantasy fights only, they are not meant for anyone to put these tarantula species together. That would be stupid, cruel, and foolish.

Rule #3 - Don't get your hands in the way.

Bout #1 For the Championship "The People's Choice"

Pterinochilus murinus vs. Halopelma lividum

We are going to put a 5" female OBT in one side of a 30 gallon and a 5" female Cobalt blue in the other side of a 30 gallon at the same time. Why females? Because chicks fighting turn guys on. Neither T has been in the enclosure before, newspaper bottom, no hides or climbs. Texas style death match.

Let's get ready to rumble! Let the battle begin.

For the first 45 seconds nothing happens, they don't seem to notice each other. Then the cobalt blue starts to move.

False alarm, the cobalt blue moved 3 inches, for the next 2 minutes pet rocks. Then the cobalt starts to move again.

They are within one foot of each other as the cobalt blue wandered to the OBT side of the tank. OBT goes into threat display, Cobalt Blue goes into threat display! So far no physical contact.

You pick the winner! Vote if you want to and you know you want to!

So not only do we have yet another shining example of the most tired, overdone, and downright juvenile thread subtype - OMG WHICH ANIMAL COULD BEAT UP WHICH OTHER ANIMAL MURDERDOME ARENA GO - but we get some bonus teehee sexism into the bargain.

This thread was a good idea.

Sorry, she's not on the poll, you'll have to vote for OBT or H. lividum. She could fight the winner and you could vote for her then.

You eat Wheaties? I thought you only ate tarantulas? Look for the winning species to be on the front of your Wheaties box.

The Piaroa indians do. They eat T. blondis. :)
While I've never eaten a tarantula other arthropods are mighty tasty. Lobster and shrimp are two of my favorite arthropods to eat. At the Audubon Insectarium a few weeks ago I ate some beelte grubs in salsa on a tortilla, and a cricket on an apple pancake ....both were delish.

I think the Piaroa Indians roasted T-blondi in an open fire before they ate it, Anastasia seems to eat them raw like oysters.

and now back to our fight for round two....

Need more info. Are they in OBT's territory, Cobalt's territory or neutral? I give home turf advantage in either case, if on neutral ground I think it will go to the cobalt in a split decision.

Round Two

The OBT and the H. lividum are circling each other in threat display striking at each other like a cobra at a mongoose. This lasts a few minutes until the OBT lashed out and the cobalt counters and gets closes enough to tap the OBT's left pedipalp with a right fang. It just nicks the exoskeleton quickly as it was in and out so fast...could it be a dry bite?

The OBT has never been tagged before and when the message reaches her primative brain instictively she backs up to create some space to assess her next move...and the cobalt blue slowly closes the gap with fangs blazing...

Here was the key sentence that you missed reading above:

"Neither T has been in the enclosure before, newspaper bottom, no hides or climbs. Texas style death match."

Neutral territory entering on opposite sides of a 30 gallon at the same time. ;)

Split decision is highly unlikely as this is a fight to the death, natural selection style, survival of the fittest.
