Mine is the Steatoda nobolis. It might be me being biased because I've bonded mostly with these guys but I think they are pretty forgiving and loyal (once you feed them lol). I think spiders with round plump bodies make them look pretty too. They also are great at adapting to new situations and love simple environments. Making them terrific starter pets.
I also feel bad for them having a bad rep which is another reason I love them. I have found they are more likely to curl up into a ball or retreat than attack.

We hear about the popular spiders in the hobby so I was curious to know what unpopular ones appeal to people.
So what's your favourite underrated spider?

Silly to say house spiders? Had a leggy one walking around my place for over a month and started calling him Harold- a week ago I found him drowned in the tub and actually felt quite sad about it :(

This doesn't really count because its my first/only spider but I absolutely love Amaurobius ferox and am shocked they don't get more attention.

Pholcus sp cellar spiders. I just love their gangly legs.

I'm curious about your comment above... what do you mean by "forgiving and loyal?" False widows are pretty neat, I agree, but I'm not sure what you mean there.

I like the really long legs of them too. Makes them seem all clumsy and cute.

What I mean by forgiving is the ones I've kept have been very forgiven to my mistakes.
With loyal for example, ones I've had around my old kitchen have lived in their webs since about September/October when I started feeding them. I've gone back to my old place since I've moved out (which was 2 months ago) and they're all still in their webs. Even though I haven't been feeding them they've still been there. . . And that seems pretty loyal to me.

whats the care like on em?
Care is quite simple, Keep them arboreal with a leaned cork slab and vertical plants, they seem to build little cocoons under the leaves. Feed weekly and you'll have something that molts at least every month or so. I've kept mine on moist substrate and it does lean to the moist side so i'm continuing to keep it moist. I'm pretty sure there are other threads on this species so check those if you're looking for further information.

I would have to say the Golden Silk Orb Weaver. They are in many places in Florida where they are very abundant and they seem to love the orange groves and set up very impressive webs and they are even known to catch birds in them.

Every Arbanitis ever. Beautiful colours, an unbelievable variation of behaviours, good visibility, low potency, awesome feeding response, and lifespan equal to or greater than a T's. But almost no interest in them down here

I'm cuckoo for Kukulcania hibernalis. They live as long as many tarantulas (10+ years for females), and the mothers allow their slings to live with them for a few weeks, sometimes even sharing their kills.

And what's not to love about that gorgeous velvety texture

The males look very different -- still velvety but brown and gangly. People often mistake them for brown recluses (even though that species doesn't even live here) and needlessly kill them.

The female he's courting lives in the hole.

I have a house spider I keep she's called Tetchy (Although not sure if Tetchy is a him or her) they are fast becoming my favourite spider so bold in their take downs and mine never hides she has recently been rehoused so her web needs work but definitely house spiders rock . 20210331_110402.jpg
Tetchy enjoying her first meal in her new digs yesterday 😁

Nephila sp. Are so simple to keep and so beautiful; unsure why they aren't more popular (disclaimer: I know nothing on breeding them so that very well may be a factor) 1200px-Banded_Golden_Orb-web_Spider_(Nephila_senegalensis)_(13928592686).jpg
