The consummate display T! Demonstrated by the fact that your MM is better looking than the VAST majority of other species. The smithi sling I got from you has molted twice, eats like a maniac, and is doing phenomenally.

I have a male and female pair of this species, but it will be a few years when they reach their ultimate molt since they both have about a 3-4 inch legspan.

If you don’t want the body of your old male when it dies, you can always send him my way. I always need dead tarantulas for my reference collection. 🙂
What do you recommend be done to dead Ts immediately and what process do you use for long term preservation?

I store dead tarantulas in 80% ethanol for long term preservation. I don’t recommend that to anyone who wants to try and make a keepsake of their pets since the alcohol will turn the specimens black removing the majority of the coloration.

I use 200 Proof Everclear...do not store Specimens using denatured alcohol, the specimen will degrade.

Hi all! Sorry for the late reply. <edit>

@AphonopelmaTX I only have the pedipalps of the smithi. The rest of the body is not available. Though I do have a mature male L. klugi that is dead. It’s been dead for months. After he died he never produced a bad smell at all. He’s currently by my window. He’s been sitting there for months. The specimen was sold as L. klugi. Anyways you’ll see an image of him on this post. Let me know if you want him and I’ll be glad to send him out to you.

@FrDoc thats cool man. I’m glad its doing great.

@viper69 I’m doing good. How are you doing? Yes I take the specimens outside for a photo shoot. The specimens always look really really good when they’re photographed outside. 1A09C48E-0B09-4603-BDC6-4FBEAA19136E.jpeg

Happy belated July 4th everyone!! I decided to finally enlarge one of my Poecilotheria metallica photos and have it as a big portrait. I’ve been wanting to do this for many many years. I’m thinking of doing at least ten portrait of different species and hang it up on my walls of my apartment. Please let me know what you guys think of this portrait. The portrait is a 17x25 dimension and it has no glass. I kind of like the fact that it doesn’t have glass on it. AE723B98-D357-4FA5-B8FB-69FFC745B3AF.jpeg

Yeh that’s the one genus I’ve never gotten into much. Moderatum is the only species I’ve really wanted and I don’t want to buy a small sling just takes too long.
I’ve had them as slings and yeah they take a long long time to grow. My female is at least 4” inches. She’ll reach 6” inches as a full size adult.

Doing Ok-no complaints! The natural lighting is great. The richness of color is impressive with your images.

No exaggeration- you have the best looking pic for this species I’ve ever seen.

I have it on my computer and phone. I use your image to enlighten the world that blue exists in animals where you least expect it.

Curious how big is the original digital file??

Better then not ok right? It’s amazing what the natural lighting does to the image of a spider. In a couple of hours I’m gonna photograph a Aphonopelma mooreae. He’s getting big and just about to get it’s adult colors soon.

I’ve been hoping to catch a confirmed female juvie/adult but just never saw one. Next time I order slings though I’ll likely get 3 or so. How long did it take to get from sling to 4”? And do you keep them at room temp or warmer?

I think a thin black or white frame would enhance the photo more.

I recently acquired her as a wild caught collected specimen. So I have no idea how old she is. She will be kept at 80 to 85 degrees all year long.

What printer are you using? My mum is always asking me to get a printer. Would the printer work for close macro shots?
I tried printing my own for macro and high detail work and it was never as good as sending it out. Maybe printers have gotten a lot better in the last 5yrs but I was never satisfied with mine. But I defintely didn’t buy a super expensive one, might have something to do with it.

See this is what I feel and tell my mum. A £400 printer isn't going to do justice to macro shots but I'm really guessing because I haven't tried it.
