Thanks!
And im sure it will look great, just let your mind go and imagine the jungle...Then take it to your tank ;)

Actually, I think I will post a pic of my setup tomorrow. :)

So far I have live moss, a live fern, and a burrow that looks like it it is under a tree root, too bad I don't have a water dish that looks natural. I'll go and buy one when I get a chance.

Yesterday I was feeding her, and when I opened the tank and filled the water dish she got a little pissed off, and the smell comes off VERY clear.

The more agitated they are, the more they segregate the smell !

Sorry to kind of dig this one up Fran. I receive a female LP about two weeks ago and within one week noticed the smell! I don't know if anyone else on here has backed you up but I would be willing to concur. Out of the 14 t's I'm currently keeping this is definitely the only one with a distinct smell to it. It is definitely not unpleasant. Hope this gives you some reassurance that you're not crazy.

I'm really interested to see what do you guys think about this and if in fact you have catched this "smell" in your Parhybanas too :D.
Yes. I noticed this for the first time a few years ago.

I have two AF. The second one didn't have this smell until it was adult.

They don't have this smell all the time. One of them molted some weeks ago and now it's clearly noticeable again.

LP is the only species I noticed a smell that obviously comes from the spider itself.

Cheers,
Martin

Wow, this is a blast from the past. I haven't sniffed mine lately. Now that she has 'em, I'd be afraid of getting hairs up my nose....

Hmm, great time to dig up this thread. I also sense a particular smell coming from my female. Strange.

Maybe since they are bigger, the smell is more noticable?
Most likely. I have 4 birds one small parakeet and 3 large parrots. I can't smell the small one unless she is very close to my nose but I can smell Jack, the blue-and-gold macaw when he is on the other side of the couch as me. It's not a bad smell; just very distinctive. If you gathered a whole bunch of clean bird feathers and put them to your nose, that's what he smells like from even a few feet.

I just use this example because I don't have Lasiodora spp. and if I tried sniffing the spiders I have, I would have an escaped spider or a welt on my nose. {D

Funny thing. I can't believe I found this thread!!! I only have an LP and the room I keep it in has an unusual smell. I use the cocoa fiber in its tank and have used it in many other animal enclosures and never noticed the smell before. It has to be my T! I am glad someone else mentioned this because I was beginning to think I was going crazy!

I always blame funny smells on my tarantulas, or the dog:D
I have not noticed any smell coming from my LP, but now I will have to give her a sniff:D

Years ago, when I had my first Lasidora Parahybana,I Remember very well that as soon as I got her home, and opened the lid I noticed a very very subtle smell. Very particular one. It didnt smell bad at all, nothing nasty, just a subtle very particular smell really hard to describe.

I thought, hm. it maybe this tarantula in particular, for some reason...Or it maybe in my head.

Then 2 years ago, after years of keeping the Parahybana, got another really large female.
And suddenlyl there it was, the same particular smell!.
I really thought about posting here and share it with you guys, but for some reason I didn't.

Well, today, I go another specimen, really large and beautiful, female too...
And when I opened the lid to house her, I got a little close but softly not to take a breath of her itchy hairs...And there it was. The very same subtle particular smell.

Does anybody here have had a somehow similar experience?
I have a large female, and I don't know what smell you are referring to. Maybe you have a super-human sense of smell like Wolverine.

No supernatural sense needed. ;)

They don't have this smell (most probably pheromons, other suggestions?) all the time. Just wait until 4 weeks after molt and you'll notice it too. This might also be the best time for mating.

Cheers,
Martin
