Same here!I have emotional attachment to ALL my animals... and not in the "Oh they are my children" way, and not so much so that I am a complete mess if they die... but they are living critters, and I do get attached
I get less attached to other people, than my animals lol
See the "Random Venoming" thread for a little bit on insight to a few of us who just name.. well, everything
LOL toxic.. how'dya know?
Steve... I was gonna hunt you down and direct you to this post if you didn't respond haha
Tommy... nope, no Charlotte here! It's not a name that appeals to me lol
My first tarantula was a male Brachypelma albopilosum too.Especially our MM B. albopilosum, which I'm sure most of you are already aware of, haha...but he was my first, so I'm allowed.
That does say you have an emotional attachment to them. Unless sadness and it's expression are nonemotions that I have confused with real emotions for too long. You're implying that they're nothing more than baseball cards to me, and I can assure you they are not.
The greatest pleasure I gain from inverts is observing their behaviors. While I'll be sad when they die or move on to new homes, I can't say I have any emotional attachment to them.
I like naming things because I get to make connections between things that are otherwise unrelated. It also gives me the chance to go Google crazy and I inevitably end up learning something.I don't have a Charlotte. Actually, I don't name my tarantulas (or scorpions or snakes or fish or beetles) and the fact that some hobbyists do has always perplexed me.
So basically you just said what I was implying was true. Actually, I bet even people who collect baseball cards have emotional attachments to them. Sometimes people just like to name their inverts because it's easier to say "Belle flipped her water dish again!" than saying "my Grammostola pulchripes flipped her water dish again!"You're implying that they're nothing more than baseball cards to me, and I can assure you they are not.
