Just aquired my first C. elegans (Tobogo) today. I'm very excited.

Tarcan or Eric, what do you suppose is best to feed 2nd to 3rd instars of these spiders? I have been crushing pinheads and offering them. It seems to work.

LOL, I have actually used live early instar superworms to feed early instar C. elegans. Of course, if you don't breed Zophobas that is not an option.

Luckily, while starting out very small, C. elegans are intense feeders IME.

If crushing pinheads is working then go with it! You'll find that very soon you won't have to be crushing them anymore :)

you can also feed them pre-killed regular sized crickets or cut up mealworms, I have used it very successfully to fatten up my slings of this species :)

heh, he or she ingulfed a live pinhead earlier and backed off. After I killed a few however they dissappeared over night. I appreciate the feedback.

Very nice animal Hans Werner!

You guys want to see something wierd??

I "have created" a mutant C. elegans...

Here is a specimen I found in an eggsac I have produced...

It has a non-semetrical abdomen pattern and a tiny second "patch"...

Here are the pictures!

tarcan>> nice :)
It's the result of a siames (conjoined twin, spelling? :p).. I'v seen it with P. irminia, P. regalis and so on.. but never with this spec., so its not genetical

can you give more details and info please, any articles already published on that that you could point me to?

Do you have pictures of the other species showing these? P. irminia and P. regalis???

Thanks for your help

I believe Ray Gabriel is going to have an arictle on this in relation to P. regalis in an upcoming BTS Journal... at least I think that's what I remember hearing.

Wonderful photos!!

I only own one of this genus - a tiny C. elegans. I apologize for the horrible photo - it molted not too long after this picture and I haven't caught it out of its burrow since. I think I'm now beginning to see a little bit of coloration on the carapace (it's about 0.25" after the most recent molt) - I can't wait until it gets "big." :)

Thanks Eric, Ray had mentionned it to me... I am looking forward to the article.

I just wonder since Bearo is sure it is non-genetic, I would like to know more and see the studies that have been published on that already.

Thanks

Martin

Hi..
Sorry, no article that I know of..
On this site you can see a P. regalis with the same thing (Picture / specimen owned by Phalagorn)

I can't find the P. irminia :( but it was really cool :p I think it's posted here on arachnoboards also.. in that case by aftershock
the yellow stripes on the abdomen were placed like this:
- - -
- - -
- - -
kinda :p
I'm gonna keep checking for info and the pic of the irminia, I'll PM you if I find something

Edit: found it :)

found another mutant today!:p

This one is less "extreme" then the other one, but still interesting...

It appears to have a smaller patch then usual, I have put the picture beside a "normal" spécimen of the same eggsac...

enjoy

Martin
