He mentioned you were the man with the info on these little gems. My little guy/girl measures in at around 3/4" at the moment. Any idea when/at what size these guys mature? It seems too small to sex effectively atm, got any pointers in this department? Also, at what size will it become a he, if its a he, anyone know? Also, how big do they get..and could mine be a mature female at this size already?? If so, can I borrow the male after Bryan is finished with him? Sorry for the barrage of questions, but theres almost no info on these little guys out there. LOL, can you tell I'm hooked.
Glad you purchased one of these gems!!
I'd also suggest you contact Tarcan and Pelo about this species as well.

At 3/4" your girl still has growing to do. My girl is ~1.5" at the moment and the male is slightly greater in legspan. I doubt she was full grown at the time of mating. You can see a picture of my mature male next to a penny in this thread.

As far as sexing goes... when mine molted at around the 1" mark I took both exuvia and examined them under a microscope.

As far as loaning my male goes... you don't know the sex of yours yet, so that's step 1! lol. Also, if it does turn out to be a female I think she would need another molt or 2, but who knows when they are actually "mature".

She/He took down a cricket nearly the same size as himself tonight

Here is a picture of a Cyriocosmus sp. Bolivia... I had those for a little while... but they are still very small... even if the 2 nd instars are bigger then their cousins C. elegans, they were still too small for my digi cam...

I will post more pictures as they grow as the colors are still hard to see on this pic... what is amazing is the continuation of the color of the prosoma all the way to the middle of the femurs... very nice!

Anybody with a C. leetzi male ? My older female is dead at 6 y.o., I have one left it would be a pity if she dies before giving birth to a new generation...

Best regards, Michael

Eric, how is your eggsac doing? It should have hatched a while ago if it was good?

Three more good eggsacs from C. elegans...

These were really "fast" produced! Mated on the 21st of August, eggsacs on the 4th of Septemeber (when I found them)... "nymph 1" (I am not sure what is the correct term) on September 23rd...

Martin, I hate to even talk about it, b/c every time I think about it my head feels like it's going to explode!

I had left the enclosure in a dark spot, totally undisturbed for ~1-week. When I did check on her I found her DEAD, still on top of the eggsac!! The eggs had begun to mold, and while I believe they were good, I lost them.

It leaves a lot of questions in my head... did mating or the production of the eggsac cause some sort of internal damage to the female? Did they eggs only start to go bad once there was a dead female on top of the sac?

Externally, there was nothing wrong with the female and I examined her closely under a scope. UGH!

Since then I've had another male mature... so now I have 2 mature males, no female, and not a single person in the U.S. (at least that I've found) to send them to.

Just pretty much sucks all the way around.

Anyway, congrats on your success! I hope to get another group of these to raise soon.

Damn, that is a horror story and weird indeed, I am really sorry to hear... talk about being extremely unlucky... the good news is that they grow fast as you know and breed like rats... you should be back on track in no time next year!

Yeah it was unlucky to say the least.

But on the upside I did find someone to give a male to... and am raising up more little ones.

Here's one of the little fellas I have now:

Eric,

I just sent some more specimens to Jason & Joel this week, I was also talking to Jason and he suspected he had a female of these, you might want to try to talk to him as well there is nothing to loose!

Thanks Martin, that's were the male went ;) I sent him home with Joel yesterday.

Joel and I had lunch yesterday, when he was in town picking up your package. Got to see all the goodies inside, and am raising a few myself :)

Nice, that means the box arrived fine! :p Those were already of good size, so it is a good start at least! Good luck with them, I am happy they are in a good home!
